Excellent Experience
Dr. Crum has performed five different orthopedic surgeries on me over the years and has always shown compassion and utmost attention to questions and concerns I have had. He has always taken the time to explain options when there were some available, and had the straightforwardness to tell me when there were not. I have found the staff at San Marcos Orthopedics to be very professional and polite. I will continue to trust Dr Crum in the future if need arises.

most unpleasant / unprofessional
He never spoke to me directly and only spoke to my partner who is a man. He also didn't listen to me, the patient. He to several calls during the short time we were there. Then when I stated that a next step needed to be taken to verify his 2 second assumption, he suggested to my partner (not the patient) that I get psychiatrist counseling for pain management.

Do not develop any infection
Had difficulty after surgery that was dismissed. Dr Crum is difficult to communicate with if you have problems with pain and signs of infection. And told that the infection in my lymph nodes under the same arm that I had surgery was out of their expertise. To go to my pcp. Also gave me a sling for after my surgery, charged insurance $1200.00, Insurance paid almost $750.00 and then I was bill $188.00. You decide it it was overpriced! Need surgery on my other shoulder will look for someone else.

Disappointing Staff
I had been a patient of Dr. Crumb’s for several years and was pleased with his service. My disappointment is probably more related to his staff. Recently, I sustained an injury to my shoulder as a result of a bike accident. I was unable to raise my arm and was in a good deal of pain. His staff told me it would be a week before he could see me. On a subsequent call, I asked the staff if I should do anything like immobilize the shoulder, ice it, take anti-inflammatory Meds ext. as I didn’t know if my shoulder was separated, broken or if I had a torn rotator cuff. The staff member told me I would need to speak to my PCP for medical advice. I told her my PCP would just refer me to a shoulder specialist. She replied with “that would be us”. I have a hard time believing an office that professes patient care first attitudes has nothing more to offer someone who sustained an injury that is so serious that use of the appendage is not possible.

Wish I could leave a negative star review. This is no reflection on Dr. Crum himself. We NEVER saw him because his staff was ridiculously difficult. Took my 83-year-old mother in (from an assisted living facility) in her wheelchair to see him. First they would not see her without a photo ID. She does not have (or need) one. Front office said they had to have one. So, they used MY photo ID, in HER chart. Next, I filled out the paperwork for her- she is disabled from a stroke and is unable to write. They said they needed a copy of my medical POA or they could not see her, despite the fact that she was sitting RIGHT THERE and "signed" the paperwork (as best she could.) Husband tried to fax the POA to their office. It went through from his end, never came through on their end. Told them I would mail a copy the SECOND I got home (30 minutes away). They would NOT see her without it. We left after an hour. Waited 6 weeks for the appt. Never have dealt such a difficult medical office.

Dr Crum was the perfect surgeon doing my total knee replacement on March 22. He was courteous, kind and caring. He explained everything in detail prior to my surgery. I would not hesitate to give him the highest rating and would not hesitate to refer him to anyone including my family, friends and neighbors. He is an excellent surgeon.

Dr. Crum was able to get me in so quickly. He spent a long time with me evaluating my hip and I really felt like he cared because he not only took X-rays but he took the time to explain them to me so that I really felt involved in the decisions that were being made about my own body. I would recommend him to anyone.

I've been to Dr. Crum twice, for different reasons, and find him to be very knowledgeable and helpful. His office staff is very nice and accommodating as well. I see him at his San Marcos location. The office is clean and the visit took less than 30 minutes from sign in to check out!

If you want to feel like you are more than a co-pay, stay away. Too many reasons to list... First doctor I've ever had that answered cell phone while in room with me- after I was in waiting area for 30-45 min. Had to wait several days for appointment for him to say MRI when that was next step anyway, and staff knew I was in pain. Then had to wait longer to have the MRI. Had someone after the fact tell me their experience there was negative as well. Ended up going to Dr. Jennings.

Dr. Crum is an excellent surgeon and I would highly recommend him to others. He easily diagnosed and treated my condition. I had no complications and I returned to my normal activities earlier than expected after surgery. His impressive orthopedic training/background certainly shows.
