I was treated at the ER for severe gastric pain. I have lupus and a long history of GI issues and surgeries. I sought help for potential pancreatitis and was labeled as a chronic opioid user. I have a pain management specialist who follows my care regarding my pain and the related conditions that cause it. I do not abuse medications or illicit drugs. I now have this in my file and this will greatly affect the level of care I receive in the future. I have contacted the patient grievance department and am waiting for a call back. To ASSUME that someone who is prescribed two 5mg pain pills a day as an abuser is uneducated, libelous and dangerous. It is also arrogant and can lead to mistakes that can cause HARM. Perhaps actually looking into my extensive medical records which clearly show my multiple conditions and the damage my body has suffered as a result would result in a clearer understanding of why I sought help after a month of pain. I waited that long because of fear of THIS bias.
