Dr. Kaku Barkoh, MD

I have degenerative disc disease and need interbody fusion as well as a discogram test. I just had my follow up appointment approximately two weeks ago to go over the results of my MRI. Dr. Barkoh will not give pain relief pills. He only prescribes a low dose anti-inflammatory that did not work for me. If my back is severe enough to need surgery I would think he would not have a problem prescribing pain medication. But I was wrong about that. I was told by his staff today that he does not prescribe pain medication and that I would have to go to a pain management doctor. He also did not answer all of my questions. He said that will come later. After I get the disco gram test. I asked him about the possibility of paralysis with the discogram test and he just brushed me off and said, don’t worry about it. Yes it’s possible but it won’t happen to you. Now I have to start all over and find another doctor. I’m very disappointed with the care he gave or I should say the lack of care.

I am not sure where all these positive reviews are coming from, but that was not the case with my mother. Dr Barkoh lacked bedside manner and was not personable nor pleasant with my mother at all during the initial visit/consultations. My mother is 79 years old and was very nervous about the back surgery procedure she needed, as anyone would be and there was no compassion shown whatsoever. Dr Barkoh actually seemed irritated by the concerns she had regarding the procedure and made a snide remark in relation to one of her questions, which is highly inappropriate. I helped my mom pick this surgeon due to the stellar reviews he had, so I was very surprised by the way my mom was handled. She was not made to feel confident at all at her appt, other than the remark he made 'I wll fix it' with arrogance. Since her back surgery, she has yet to get a f/u phone call (to see how she is getting along) nor did Dr Barkoh ever come in the hospital room after surgery to check in with her. Do better!

My wife went to see Dr. Barkoh for her back which has been an issue for years. Two previous surgeries. He found that she also had a neck issue more pressing than the back. Scheduled the surgery on her neck and everything went fine. (except for the neck brace which was a total pain). He is a great DR. with a great bedside manner, takes time to explain everything and sincerely cares about his patients. I would recommend him to anyone with spine issues. Back surgery will be in about 3 months. we are looking forward to getting her life back which has been missing for over 6 years. Thank you so very much for all that you have done and will do for her. You are definitely a God sent. I will update after the back surgery.

I am very grateful for Dr. Barkoh and his staff for taking good care of me during my procedure. I have had back problems for many years and have been trying to manage it with over-the-counter medications, physical therapy, and etc. Finally, I decided to go into the new year with less pain and to live a pain-free quality of life. Dr. Barkoh has made that possible for me and I will be forever grateful for this. Thank you so much and keep up the great work!!!

I can also attest to an Amazing outcome after surgery. Dr. Barkoh took the time to listen, give his "honest" opinion and see things on my CT Scan that other doctors missed. 7 weeks of severe pain in my back and sciatic nerve on my right leg. 2 Weeks after seeing Dr. Barkoh he did surgery that was a miracle for me! Zero pain in my leg immediately after the surgery! The life I was forced to live with the pain, was no life at all, so in essence Dr. Barkoh saved my life. Asked if I would change anything. The Only thing I would change is that I would have seen Dr. Barkoh Much Sooner! Thank You Dr. Barkoh!!!

I wish I was capable of properly expressing the impact Dr. Barkoh has had on my life. I started having lower back pain that extended down my legs in early 2021 and had seen another doctor multiple times with no results. Dr. Barkoh IMMEDIATELY recognized that an MRI was needed, and the results revealed an enormous synovial cyst in the lumbar region of my spine. Because of its massive size he determined that microdecompression surgery to remove the cyst was the appropriate course of action and the surgery was scheduled as quickly as possible. My surgery experience was outstanding with both the staff and Dr. Barkoh providing all the information necessary to give me peace of mind. The mild incision pain I woke up from post-surgery was the only pain I felt, and I could not believe the absolute absence of the horrific pain I'd had all those months previous. He is absolutely brilliant and truly cares about his patients. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Dr. Barkoh is the best spine surgeon I've dealt with. I've had a previous fusion at L5/S1 and I was having problems at L4/L5. I was in a lot of pain before surgery. He listened to my concerns, we tried other nonsurgical methods first because I was against another back surgery. We finally made the decision to perform the surgery and eventhough I was nervous about the absence of my pain pump after surgery, his method of getting you up and walking really helped. He likes to come in your room and open the curtains if you're in bed, but my recovery was great. My recovery with this second back surgery was so much easier and quicker than my first, which he DID NOT PERFORM. I would recommend him because he listens, explains, great bedside manner, he makes sure the hospital staff gives you what you need and just an overall great Doctor.

Doctor Backoh , perform surgery to relieve me from all the nerve pains that I’ve had in my neck and back for over 15 years that I Live with pain daily ! Praise God that he put Dr. barkoh in my life ! Two hours of surgery change my life forever ! I highly recommend him , All his Staff are very helpful and professional ! The Office visits were in and out in no time and very convenient with a new office building nice and clean makes you feel safe in these days and times that’s important ! Very positive experience after the surgery I was in no pain and didn’t even need pain pills what a success story ! Dr barkoh is a wonderful dr and surgeon my husband went in for surgery and all went well (thank goodness)dr barkoh came out to talk to me after and was so wonderful in answering?I had did not rush me at all makes you feel very comfortable.

A complicated procedure managed with great professionalism all around. A wonderful outcome with minimal pain. Dr. Barkoh is now handling my sister-in-law's back issues as a result of my experience.

Dr. Barkoh recently performed a laminectomy on my L3/L4 lumbar spine vertebrae. He told me it would be a minimal invasive surgery but I had no idea just how minimal it would be. Dr. Barkoh is really up to date with the new procedures for spine surgery. My research on the internet indicating the complete removal of the lamina ended up being old school procedures. When he showed me what he actually did to expand the spinal canal at this site I was speechless. I went from not being able to walk very far without stopping and stretching to virtually pain free walking with the only slight discomfort in the surgical site area. It has only been 2 weeks since surgery and I am already release to proceed with life. How wonderful. I would recommend Dr. Barkoh to anyone experiencing spine issues. Wonderful and amazing doctor.

Dr. Kaku Barkoh help me with my spine problems I had the L5 disc destroyed I was in extremely pain. I visited Dr. Barkoh, he did plenty of diferent tests before surgery to make sure he was treating the right point, surgery was successful they got me walking the next day after surgery, now three weeks after surgery I start walking short distance with out any help just by myself. Dr. Barkoh is very professional and his clinic assistant Courtney she did a great job moving the insurance paper work quick and all his clinic staff, thank you Dr. Barkoh.

Dr Barkoh and his staff treated me as though I was a family member and not just another patient. I had a nearly unbearable pain down my left leg which caused by a pinched nerve in my spine. Dr. Barkoh performed spinal surgery to remove the bone and/or cartilage constricting said nerve, and completely ended the pain. I transitioned from Dr. Barkho's previous office and his MA, Courtney remembered me after not seeing them for over a year. So glad he opened an office in the Humble/Kingwood area. Everyone in the office is knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Thanks Courtney, Norma and Victoria. Dr. Barkho is a very accomplished, skilled and caring physician/surgeon. He explains everything and takes time with you. After my successful surgery he came to see me three times during my two days in the hospital which was much appreciated. Recommend Dr. Barkoh with no hesitation.
