Dr. Katharine Meddles, MD

Our 18 year old daughter was diagnosed as having a seizure disorder when she was 3 years old. Over the past 15 years we have seen 5 specialists, including some at Children’s Hospital and Dr. Meddles is far and away the best doctor our daughter has. She listens with empathy and compassion, but also has a broad knowledge and understanding of her subject. She has helped make our teen’s life as normal as it possibly can be.

Three days before my son had an overnight High School trip, Dr. Meddles diagnosed epilepsy. My son has had only two seizures so the irregular EEG and follow up diagnosis was a complete shock. Within the first three days of this diagnosis, Dr. Meddles worked with my son's psychiatrist to determine the best seizure medication and the office staff worked with our son's high school to provide a school based health plan. All of this happened within three days and my son is able to attend his High School trip. This kind of customer service just does not happen in the medical field. (In comparison it took me five days, multiple phone calls, and an in person visit with our pediatrician's office just to get a referral to see Dr. Meddles.) The care and service we have received so far as helped us to begin processing and figuring out how to live with this diagnosis. I am grateful and thrilled beyond belief.

We met Dr Meddles today at my son’s first appointment. Our four year old was just diagnosed with epilepsy and we were beyond impressed with Dr Meddles- she spent ample time with us, answered my questions honestly and with empathy and the visit felt like a true collaboration between provider and parent, with us both doing our best to work together to determine the correct treatment plan. Dr Meddles was warm and engaging with my four year old, who was anxious about the visit but he lived her! After seeing quite a few pediatric doctors for my three kids over the years I can say that Dr Meddles is a stand-out, and I plan to transfer the care of my other child with epilepsy to her as well because I was so impressed! I would strongly recommend Dr Meddles to friends and family! She is exactly the kind of doctor our family needed after a crazy year! I look forward to being with Dr Meddles for all of my children’s’ future neurology needs!

Dr. Meddles is one of the most compassionate doctors that I have ever met. My son has been seeing her since he was a year old. She listens to every single concern.

When faced with some extremely scary possible diagnosis with my infant Dr. Meddles was both reassuring and thorough. She gave the care we needed without being too aggressive in her investigation, which made it possible for us to get the diagnosis we need without over testing a baby which is awful in itself. I always felt heard and cared for in my concerns.

Dr. Meddles is kind, courteous, professional and extremely knowledgeable. Her great sense of humor and listening skills immediately made my son feel understood and cared for versus other pediatric neurologist who have ignored his role in his own care or talked to him like he was a young child. He’s 16 and needs a doctor that he believes will understand and care about him as an active person. Dr. Meddles is amazing at listening to and understanding my son’s history & needs. She had the perfect balance of including him in treatment decisions and keeping me (mom) involved. I would strongly recommend her to any patient needing help with seizures, epilepsy or other neurological concerns.
