Horrible Experience
This doctor did not even review my sons file. She kept saying that “there is a lot to unpack and it will take multiple appointments” because apparently each appointment is only 30 mins. My son has been seen by Shriners and Upstate Ortho. They did a thorough exam, X-Rays, etc and got a general idea of what we were dealing with and next steps. She barely examined my child and told me she disagreed with what his previous doctor said. She ended up leaving the room once and then we were interrupted again. Which ate into our limited appointment time. She actually told my son that she was “distracted” after she couldn’t remember what we had said 5 mins prior. She was condescending and dismissive. To say that the previous diagnosis and treatment plan that the doctor who was treating him for over 2 years laid out without even seeing an XRay? She made both myself and my son very uncomfortable.

Incompetent, Condescending and Crazy
2022: Dr. Doughty is by far the worst orthopedic I've ever met. She questioned why I was bringing my daughter for care so soon after injury - insinuating I was a hypochondriac. She neglected to evaluate the area where my daughter was experiencing pain and kept insisting on symptoms she didn't have in order to fit her diagnosis. She overtly criticized her pediatrician for ordering an MRI because "It makes healthcare more expensive for everyone else" and "MRIs show things that aren't really there". She made her strong support for socialized medicine well known (I don't know why she even went there) and then freely admitted she's unfamiliar with these kind of injuries so she googled some things.... Dr. Doughty should not be practicing medicine. Unfortunately, I'm not surprised Bassett hired her (despite all these bad reviews). Bassett is desperate for doctors - good or bad, they don't care so long as they're vaccinated. Go get real care, it's worth the drive!

February 1st my son was scheduled for surgery. He was taken into surgery around noontime. I didn’t see my don until around 7:00 pm . She tells me that she didn’t finish the surgery, but she cut my son’s foot open.. she was condescending, rude and a absolute nightmare. My son was left with a sliced foot , and she seemed okay with her decision. My son and I were discharged from the hospital, and we were forced out into a bad snowstorm, all because of her poor decisions. I do not recommend her. Run.. run far away..

Dr. Doughty disagreed with the referring physician and decided to cancel the procedure without discussing it first with her doctor. After we left my daughter pain level increased and we were able to reschedule the procedure two days later. A different surgeon did the procedure and found our referring physician was indeed correct. Dr. Doughty main issue is over confidence in always being right and not trusting others opinions.

Dr. Doughty has poor bedside manor, she doesn't have anytime for questions and she shrugged off a legitimate concern I had at a follow up apt. a month later I noticed the issue getting worse, took my daughter in, only to hear her tell me that it was like that because they over corrected it. We are currently trying a different treatment method, one that I was suppose to be offered in the first place but never knew about it until 3 months later...

My baby was referred for an exam by the Orthopedic surgeon Dr Katheryn Doughty. I am a strong person and can usually handle myself in situations But meeting her, blew me away. I was completely caught off guard. She was condescending, made inappropriate and rude comments and was an absolute bully. When I asked questions, she refused to answer me. If you must meet with her, I would suggest taking a support person and be ready to advocate for yourself and child.

My 14 yr old son described her as bullying and rude. I found her sarcastic and lacking in the skills needed to communicate with children. I was horrified to see her unkind bedside manner, especially at our beloved Shriners Hospital!
