Dr. Kathy Maupin, MD

Recently very disappointing. I saw Dr. Maupin once in 2011. Everything is out of pocket, which I didn't mind. While after the initial assessment and labs, you do see only her staff for the inserts year after year. The staff is excellent. However, this has become a cash-cow business for Dr. Maupin. She is now requiring a boat-load of labs for no reason other than to have the insurance company pay for them or the patient, if they are under Medicare. Medicare won't pay for the labs unless written by your PCP/internist. Recently, I want to have pellet inserts, but she is requiring unnecessary labs that I had done less than 30 days ago by my internist and won't except those labs from BJC. I would have to have 5 labs redone. My labs are private pay and would cost around $250. I felt she was practicing outside of the scope of her practice, as my internist oversees my other medical care. The only reason why I kept returning to her is the wonderful staff, but no more. Buyer beware.

Dr. Maupin gave me a phenomenal consult but the follow-up care has bordered on negligence. She uses mid level providers to deliver her initial plan but it seems like they work from protocols and not individualized problem solving. I am not confident Dr. Maupin is even involved after the initial consult unless you pay (out of pocket) for a repeat consult. My PCP became angry and stated “they are not practicing evidence based medicine.” The use of thyroid med like it’s water almost killed me.

Very knowledgeable about conditions plaguing women. She has changed my life with the testosterone treatment especially.

Dr. Maupin is very good at explaining, and easy to talk to. The symptoms of aging can be difficult to express, but it is clear Dr. Maupin has the experience and expertise needed to correctly treat those symptoms.
