Dr ruffings resident came in to do an initial assessment verbal, reflex testing, and sensory. I had forgotten to tell her about the choking, and difficulty swallowing. When she came back in with Dr. ruffing, I blurted out that I had forgotten to tell her. Dr. Ruffing said” I would like to meet the patient first “, and shook my hand. He had me sit on the table and did the same as his resident. He was very dismissive and told me some of my abnormal and changed lab results from my lumbar puncture were normal. As an RN I questioned him. He also said stop taking pyridostigmine it’s not helping you. It has helped alot, almost like a magic wand. He said to me that I needed to go back to my primary. I told him my primary sent me here hoping to get some answers. I asked him if he could refer me to another specialty, was thinking maybe immunology, rheumatology etc… he said “you have seen a lot of Dr’s. He then said “ aren’t you happy you don’t have a neuromuscular diseas”? I said I would like to have my life back, that would make me happy. He again repeated that and I replied the same. He said I have nothing for you. Dismissive, didn’t look at any MRI discs I had brought with me. Don’t suggest a single fiber EMG, or anything. I knew where he was going with this. His reviews are horrendous for a doctor. He is dismissive in a kind condescending way. He doesn’t look at the whole picture, or even really discuss any findings with you. My MRI’s have changed, Lumbar puncture has changed. I have high protein in my CSF, and all things point to some kind of systemic inflammatory condition. It was a waste of time. I am a happy person who has learned that it is what it is… but wouldn’t it be nice to feel good again?!? I wouldn’t go to shands if he is representative of the care there. I do know they have a good reputation for some things, but this doctor is horrible. It’s a shame that the medical field is failing so many people. I told home as practitioners, we need to do better. Myasthenia gravis was what I had been put on pyridostigmine for. I seem to be sero -negative. I would t recommend him at all. He suggested I have functional neurological disorder. I had a psychologist of 50 years test me and he doesn’t think that’s what it is. My primary, and rheumatologist don’t think that’s what this is. They are both extremely smart. They told me I don’t present like a person with FND. As a medical professional, I don’t recommend this doctor. I hate to see patients dismissed, and thrown to the wolves. We all deserve better. Do no harm… that’s the oath that has long gone out the window.

The man that they call Dr. Ruffing should be fired. The most condescending supercilious person I've ever met. Arrogance at an all time high. He talks to you like a dog probably should have been a vet instead

Wasn’t Impressed
After taking many weeks to get to see the Doctor, I was not impressed by what he had to say about my rare disease, of which I was told he was an expert.

Very capable clinician
Dr. Ruffing was professional and thorough in taking my history and performing his hands-on exam. He answered all my questions, inquired of my personal and professional background, and walked me to the lobby at the conclusion of the visit. Dr. Ruffing was, on occasion, a bit brusque in his manner, owing I think to an all-business style that some patients have apparently found off-putting. I'm sure he will work to improve his marks in the interpersonal engagement column. Beyond that, mine was a five star experience.

Dr. Ruffing was unhelpful, unknowledgeable and dismissive about my polyneuropathy. I left with no answers and zero followup.

Dismissed and Gaslit
I had an appt with Dr. Ruffing following an 8-day hospitalization for sudden rhabdomyolysis with a still undetermined cause. I had had the appt scheduled already due to other neurological symptoms I had been having for a while. I wrote out a list of what I wanted to tell him and only got part way through it because of interruptions and him asking the same questions multiple times. He didn't test strength properly and lied on the report of my reflexes. I have documentation from my PT and a neurosurgeon (both at Mayo) that disagree with his reflex testing and his strength scores. I left the appt crying because everything I brought up was completely dismissed and was told I'm objectively fine when I know I'm not and other doctors agree with me.

I would not recommend this physician to anyone! He is very condescending, has no bedside manners, and is extremely rude! Perhaps he should consider a career in research where he does not deal face to face with patients! In my opinion he does not deserve even one star!

Excellent... I’ve been going for over 10 years for my migraines and he has done wonders for me. I would be without a job if it weren’t for Dr. Ruffing. There are new meds available that are outstanding which eliminates the need for the old migraine medication. Very good doctor !!!

I went to the Dr today for a consultation. I was very surprised at his questioning and the way he went about it. I felt he was very condescending and less interested in the reason for the visit than my weight. He checked my strength and balance but there was no discussion about my current medication or how I'm dealing with the constant pain. I had hoped for more discussion on how to deal with the pain and less about his personal diet. He didn't seem to want to listen to me, rather to just talk about himself. There was no personal relationship and I felt the visit was a waste of time. I have been on the same medication for years and was hoping we could (he could) come up with some alternative, newer medications. If I had just wanted to be insulted, I would have went to a comedian, at least it would have been funny.

Terrible he was uncaring and accused me of being angry because he Had not got my previous doctor referral and I even sent him a copy of it and they still didn’t get it but he thought I was angry because I mentioned the fact that they got neither referral from my doctor or me he was very accusatory and belittling

Dr Ruffing was very patient and listened to everything I had to say, asked questions, and did a few tests to help him determine my issues BEFORE he looked at notes from my previous doctor. I was happy he didn’t let someone else’s judgement influence him and made his own decisions based on what he saw and heard from me. I’m happy I have found a doctor that I believe wants to find out why I feel so badly. The office staff is very helpful, kind, and professional.

Horrible experience! I only went to him once, and that was enough. He hardly looked at me. Dismissed my concerns in less than 10 minutes and said he was done. I called back the office to speak to the office manager to voice my concerns and she never came to the phone. He really has no bedside manners nor people skills.

Excellent Clinician. The TEST itself isn't supposed to be a "walk in the park". the test REQUIRES placing tiny (28 guage) needles under the skin. Any other techique may not produce the best information to the ordering surgeon. He is thorough, empathetic, compassionate. His goal is to provide the absolutely best information needed by the surgeon to guide the best surgical treatment. Thank you kindly.

I wouldnt send a goldfish to see this doctor. I tried to build a bond with him for years, most neurologist dont have great bed side manners but he is just an uncaring human. He dismisses his patients and as others have noted while in crisis, he & his office avoided me & my husband's calls. We finally went back to our PCC and I was admitted to the hospital immediately. Do not use this group -- I wouldnt see any doctor affiliated with this group.

In a word AWFUL! I left his office crying. I went to him for severe migraines and also mentioned that I have depression. I have tried many meds with no relief and told him I was very depressed by this. He basically scolded me and said I need to see a psychiatrist! He is a rude and uncaring man who should not be a doctor!

Dr Ruffing was rude and defensive when I asked a question about what he did in my emg. He immediately thought I was questioning his competence. In a previous visit whe. I tried to explain my symptoms and when and how long they occurred, he told me that I was too anxious. DO NOT GO TO THIS MAN. I have never been treated so poorly by any other medical professional at any other time.

Terrible, condescending, and uncaring. I had a serious adverse reaction to a medication he prescribed and was hospitalised for 2 days in the cardiac unit. This happens, but the way he handled it was awful. I never got a call from him. He actively avoided talking about it at my next appointment and when pressed, told me I had a panic attack because I "was nervous to take the pill". I had no history of panic disorder and if I didn't go to the hospital that day, I would be dead at 23 years old.
