I saw Dr. Ruggiero because my regular OBGYN was not available and I’ve been seeing her ever since. She is very personable, she listens and answers questions and has excellent follow up. I would and have recommended her to everyone I know

Incompetent doctor
I was extremely unlucky to have this doctor on call to deliver me at NYU. I had an unmedicated birth and she was yelling at me while I was pushing instead of comforting me and instructing me on how to push effectively. She was very condescending and performed an episiotomy, which should not have been needed considering my baby was only 4 pounds. On top of that, during stitching, if I just winced or reacted at all from the pain she would completely stop and just sit in her chair waiting while I bled out, for almost half hour refusing to continue saying she “won’t risk getting pricked by the needle”. She’s obviously only capable of stitching patients who are under anesthesia. She allowed me to lose an abnormal amount of blood and I almost needed a blood transfusion. I finally asked for a different doctor and he was capable of stitching me without threatening me or complaining. I would never wish this doctor on my worst enemy. I still get ptsd flashbacks of her yelling at me amonth later.

Wonderful doctor - highly recommend!
I saw Dr. Ruggiero for my prenatal visits, she was the doctor on call who delivered my baby, and I continue seeing her for my routine visits and could not recommend her enough! She is easy going, positive and makes every appointment enjoyable. She treats all of my questions as her top priority and continues to make me feel like I am her only patient, which I know is far from the case! I know at each visit she will take all of my concerns seriously and follows up in a very timely manner. I could not recommend her enough!

Dr. Ruggiero is incredible. She supported my wife through our first pregnancy, and showed so much empathy throughout the process. I’m sure the questions we asked were the same questions that all first-time parents ask their doctor, but Dr. Ruggiero was always engaged and excited to talk to us. She has such a caring, thoughtful approach to how she helps patients, and I’m sure it’s exhausting for her. When we were struggling and at our lowest, she was a breath of fresh air. It is so nice to know that someone will listen to you and honestly have your best interest at heart. THANK YOU, Dr. Ruggiero!

Dr. Ruggiero is an amazing physician. While I saw a rotating set of Cityscape doctors for prenatal visits, Dr. Ruggiero’s prenatal visit stood out. She very thoughtfully talked me through the C-section procedure that I chose for my breech birth, and listened to the questions I had about having late-onset gestational diabetes, even offering to re-do my glucose tolerance test to ensure I hadn’t been misdiagnosed. When I was in the hospital after having my C-section, a miscommunication among the nursing staff one night led me to being taken off my pain medicine prematurely and I fell into pretty severe pain. That morning, Dr. Ruggiero stopped by during rounds and really listened to me when I told her I was feeling bad. She talked to the nurses for me and soon I was able to get on a better pain management regimen. It felt like I had a true advocate in the hospital at a time when I wasn’t able to advocate for myself, and that made a huge difference.

TERRIBLE Dr. Laura Ruggiero horrible person. Got to appt. 12 minutes late. From NJ and am dealing with my Dad also a NYU patient who has dementia. Waited 2 months for appointment and told to leave. Not being seen after 15 minutes late. REALLY? No compassion. I asked to speak to doctor and she refused to even come out. UNREAL. For years I waited and waited time and time again but there is NO room for patient. I wouldn't want her now anyway but it's a disgrace.

Dr. Ruggiero is a nice enough person, just a poor communicator. Office visits were rushed and she answered many of my questions by telling me to look at the patient education page on the ACOG (American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists) website. Prenatal tests and subsequent results were poorly explained. I'm sure NYU's 15min scheduling windows are as much to blame for my experience as Dr. Ruggiero. Regardless, I was not comfortable with my care and switched both providers & hospitals.
