Takes offense easily
Zero gift of care. Lots of knowledge. Does not listen to concerns and treats patients with a my way or the highway and dont question me mentality which is one way to make patients, especially high risk patients not trust you. She thinks she can demand trust and acts as if any questions are personal offenses to her professionalism. Definitely needs to work on that!

Rushed, not a good listener
Put things in notes that didn’t discuss in appointment, having a high risk pregnancy made me really concerned reading about complications that were not discussed, does not reply to her own message but has someone else reply. Didn’t feel cared for, tried to rush out from room after scan, felt was annoying her with questions. Ignored pelvic pain I had, I kept bring it up and she brushed over it, said I couldn’t do physical therapy, without caring or asking what the source of my pain was. Knowing what I know now PT would have helped with my pain without compromising pregnancy, simple posture changes and how I sit would have helped. Didn’t discuss birth options or prepare me in anyway, I ended up with birth injuries that could have been avoided if I was more educated, knew about safe breathing techniques (avoided purple pushing) and understood intervention like petosin. She’s a great and skilled surgeon, but doesn’t care about helping us prepare for birth or minimize birth injuries.

Extremely unhelpful
Her and another doctor tag teamed my appointment and were extremely rude. She was in the appointment room for less than 15 minutes even though my appointment was with her. Did not take any of my concerns seriously despite a previous history of concern.

Dr. Lamale-Smith saved our baby. I was at risk for miscarriage and pre-term labor. And with her thoughtful care and expertise we made it all the way to 35 weeks! Such a win. She was incredibly knowledgeable, caring and professional. We are beyond thankful, our baby wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for her guidance and care.

I did not feel like she took any of my concerns seriously. Every time I asked about delivery options she would tell me it was too soon to think about that. Refused to give me a referral to a different perinatologist because she wouldn't refer me to a 'competitor' when it was something she could handle. Acts differently when you go by yourself vs when someone comes with you. There is also no way to actually call and speak with her like most doctors.

She did not have great bedside manner and made us feel very scared of the finding. Our next doctor was realistic but put us at ease. As a new mom, you want to fee like you're in good hands with someone who cares about you, and unfortunately I did not have that experience with this doctor.
