Dr. Carkner took time with me. I did not feel rushed and left feeling that I had a new friend. My questions were answered, my concerns and fears were addressed. She possesses great “people skills” and knows how to talk to her patients, i.e., she does not “talk down” to people. She is being proactive in my case.

Very caring and attentive
Dr Carkner was called in to consult for a cardiac issue I had after surgery while in the hospital. I found her to be a good listener, very informative and caring. I would not hesitate to use her services if I lived in the Chattanooga area.

Doesn’t listen to patients
I’m very disappointed with the care I received from Dr. Carkner. She did not listen to my symptoms and never asked any follow up questions. She was belittling with her interactions and made no real effort to assist me in figuring out what is going on. Seeing her was a complete waste of my time and money.

Patient input in their care matters
She was only focused on writing me a prescription for a statin instead of speaking with me regarding the reason I scheduled a visit to see her for my recent event of an irregular heat rate. She made me feel like my concerns about statins side effects or that a systolic B/P of 120 was to low for me was irrelevant. She stated if I was unwilling to take a statin then what could she do for me. I told her I was hoping that she could order test to see if there were any physical abnormalities of my heart that would explain the irregular rate. She did order several tests. After this visit I felt we were not a good match and was able to find another cardiologist that listen to my concerns and knows that a doctor and patient should work together for best outcome of care.

Details Matter
I’m more impressed with Dr. Carkner with every visit. She’s truly concerned about my overall health, not just her expertise. She thorough, as is her staff, and in her concerns for my past surgeries, she found important blood work numbers not related to my heart, but my liver! She immediately sent this info over to my GI dr with notes concerning these asking for more in-depth testing. I wish all drs took such care. She’s 100% in my book!

I had to push my 20 yr old in a wheelchair to her office. She recognized that my daughter needed to see an endocrinologist based on her labs. She stated numerous times that she was not one and there was not one in her practice. She saw her labs and we told her that my daughter could not even stand. Yet she ordered tests instead of advising me to take her to the ER. After looking online I realized that my daughter needed help asap. At the ER it was discovered that she had a very rare disease called Addisons. She was in a crisis and near kidney failure. If my daughter had went for the tests that Carkner ordered it most certainly would have harmed her. Carkner should have advised that my daughter be seen asap in the ER. She saw that she could not walk. She did not seem alarmed at all. She was not compassionate either. I should not have had to realize on my own that my daughter needed emergency care asap. Thankful for the info from the internet. It saved my daughter's life.

After my trusted Dr retired, I saw Dr. Carkner once on a referral. She blew off everything I told her. I tried to explain to her the 10 year journey I'd had w my previous Dr (who became more of a friend than a Dr). She stopped me, looked squarely at me and said, "Do you know who Mr. Magoo is? (I'm thinking, "What the heck?") People say I'm like Mr. Magoo, I just stay focused on what's straight ahead." I gotta tell ya, that summed it up. She completely blew me off, gave me a lecture (and I'm in pretty good health and just a couple of years younger than she is), and just did whatever she wanted to do regardless. I left her office thinking, "What have I got myself in to?" The next day I called and asked to be transferred to another Dr. I have two other friends who were going to Carkner and both said the same. I want a Dr I can talk to, who'll listen wo judging, speak in understandable terms, and we can determine my treatment together. If you want the same, I advise going elsewhere.

After writing the October 12, 2017 review above, my confidence in Dr. Carkner has waned. Like two other reviewers, I have found her performance to be inconsistent. After a number of years, one expects to be on the same page with the doctor. That is not the case here.

My name is Alan D. Massey and I would like to give Dr. Carkner a 10 star rating but 5 is the highest. She is very nice, knowledgeable and understanding as a Dr. she answers all my questions and asks before I leave if I have anymore. I am very lucky to have found her as my Cardiologist. Since I unfortunately need one :( . But she has really helped me and my condition. In short I highly recommend her. Keep up the great work!!!

Never, Dr Carkner saw my cousin who has Noonans syndrome. She was very rude. She grabbed her cheeks and said “ these are a reason to stop breathing” ( because she didn’t want to do a sleep study. Then grabbed her abdomen and said this isn’t edema, this is adipose tissue. Essentially saying she is fat, my sweet cousin is heavy but she always has been. She broke her leg two years ago and it didn’t heal. She is now in a wheelchair. We left , she was crying This Doctor was very UNPROFESSIONAL !!

Dr Carkner is cold in delivery and communication, doesn't inform the patient effectively, and appears to worry more about her appearance than being a good Dr. I came away from Dr's visit with her with more questions than when I came in to see her.
