Because my PSA level had risen from 4.2 to 5.5 in six months, Dr Schwartz at Intercoastal set me up with an appointment with "doctor" Cohen on March 17 to discuss getting a prostate biopsy. When "doctor" Cohen entered the room he asked me very rudely - “so what are you doing here?”!! I was astounded and replied “are you kidding me right now?". I told him that I was here for a consultation before scheduling a biopsy. He then got very defensive and said “how am I supposed to know that you need a biopsy?” and I said “because you had called a week ago and discussed it with me!". Obviously this supposed "doctor" had no recollection of my talk with him just one week before. He claimed NOT to have received my MRI results which was a complete lie. Luckily, I had brought a hard copy of them which he looked at for maybe 15 seconds and that was it. I proceeded to ask him a couple of questions about prostate cancer but he immediately interrupted me each time and kept saying “let’s just get the biopsy” and “let’s not worry about that stuff right now"!! He then told me to show the MRI results I brought to his front desk and someone would call me with the date and time of the biopsy. I never heard from anyone which at this point didn't really matter as there was no way I would ever see this fake "doctor" again! Cohen is the WORST "doctor" that I have ever been to in my entire life!I I urge anyone reading this to never even consider going to this fake "doctor". As someone else said in one of his reviews - "I wouldn't take my dog to him"! That says it all. I have since seen with a real urologist - Dr. Daniel Kaplon and is very very professional.

STAY AWAY!
After a positive bladder cancer diagnosis, Dr. Cohen performed surgery. I was told by Dr. Cohen that the surgery was a success, and to follow-up with him in four months. Long story short, feeling uneasy, I went for a second opinion 2 months later, and was told by the new urologist that the bladder cancer had spread. I am now recovering from surgery for the removal of multiple organs at a major cancer center. When I spoke with Dr. Cohen regarding my cancer center surgery, he was nothing but defensive, cold, unsympathetic and uncaring. A ZERO rating would be generous.

Stay away at all costs
Can't say enough bad things about our experience with Dr. Cohen and Intercoastal Medical Group. He lied about the status of a kidney stone on my wife and performed an unnecessary procedure that cost us over $4,500. After the procedure was completed on 2/17, he told us what we already knew in January: there was no kidney stone left and it passed on its own naturally weeks prior. Weeks leading up to the unnecessary procedure, Dr. Cohen repeatedly called my wife to tell her she "definitely" has a kidney stone and "if she is interested in getting the procedure, get in touch with his office." He called and left two voicemails trying to sell us a procedure that was not needed when my wife was already symptom free for weeks. After the unnecessary procedure, my wife had to be rushed back to the ER due to complications from the procedure and incurred additional expenses from his unprofessionalism and salesmanship.

By far the worst Urologist
Avoid Dr Cohen at all costs ! By far the worst Doctor I've ever had. Lacked any empathy for the excruciating amount of pain I was going though. I went to see him for pain in my right kidney. He prescribed a CT scan and said that it was swollen and that there was nothing he could do. 1 month later I started to vomit and the pain was so bad that I had to go to the ER and the ER Dr. looked at the original CT Scan from Cohen and said I had a kidney stone. DR Cohen ordered another CT Scan, but the it was ordered incorrectly with no contrast, so the 2nd Scan was not useable. The office had to put an urgent status on the 3rd CT scan. All of this taking another month now while I am in agony. Had to go to the ER again because of the pain. 3rd CT scan finally came back with upj obstruction and he told me that there was nothing he could do to help. This has been a nightmare for me because of this Doctors inability to diagnose and treat my issue. Looking for another Dr.

only as good as staff
spent yesterday in ER with husband and referred to Dr. Cohen. Called this am and a gentleman answered after 15 rings and then a series of website referrals, etc. He started to register my husband's info and then I hear laughter among staff and I'm put on hold. Told they don't accept our insurance. OK, no problem but sincereity and compassion go a long way. (HOW, DOES HE KNOW WE CAN'T PAY fee?) Sir, you are only as good as your staff as they are your first line of introduction. We are going somewhere else. NO THANKS

Louis Cohen is, in my opinion, an abysmal urologist. He completely lacks any sense of empathy and is devoid of any sort of communication skills. I saw him for leakage problems. He kept having me come back, and each appointment was the same... he'd ask how it was going, I'd tell him, and he'd say let's give it more time. That's it... the whole appointment in less than two minutes with nothing accomplished. Finally, when I clearly was making no progress, he ordered a CT scan and did an in-office cystoscopy. I've had it done before (when I lived in the north) and it was uncomfortable, but painless. This guy absolutely put me into orbit it was so horribly painful. And, frankly, I don't believe he cared. His diagnosis was that I had a cyst on my bladder and he'd need to do to another procedure. Fortunately, I went for a second opinion and discovered there was no cyst. Again, all of this is my opinion, but I'd personally avoid him like the plague!

I am a retired dentist. Unfortunately I was a patient of Louis Cohen. I would not address him as doctor. He is about the worst medical practitioner I have ever had the misfortune to have consulted. I had multiple urinary infections. I consulted Cohen. He ordered two sets of ultra sounds. He said he did a prostate exam. I am 72 and have had a few prostate exams and know what they feel like. He did not go anywhere near far enough inside to touch my prostate. His final advice was to drink more water. I had another bout of infection and found a competent urologist. He did an exam including a prostate exam, took a thorough history, ordered a CT and then performed a cystoscopy. He concluded that the enlarged prostate was causing insufficient emptying of the bladder. He put me on a medication to alleviate the problem.

I highly recommend this doctor. He is extremely professional, direct and thorough. He diagnosed my bladder problem right away. Within a few weeks he carried out my surgery at The Sarasota Memorial Hospital, which was the best hospital I've even been in. This is a great Doctor/Surgeon.

The lack of a good examine led to a friend of mine having serious issues and a hospital stay. (Please note my friend did not use Dr Cohen but another Dr.) A good examine is important although Dr Cohen has a less than stellar persona a complete and thorough examine is extremely important. Dr. Cohen isn't thorough. This is based on the Dr I used in NJ before Dr. Cohen.

Dr Cohen received a 1-star review only because it was impossible to complete a review by giving him 0(Zero). He was easily the worst Doctor that I have ever dealt with. He was on call for my normal urologist and quickly made it very clear that he had more important things to do than listen and help with my problem. He was arrogant, condescending, and rude. He simply didn't care and didn't even bother to pretend that he did.
