Dr. Louise Thielen, MD

Biased and unprofessional. She treats based off personal opinion and not medical professional experience. I have never felt more attacked and judged by any health care professional, and it has left me terrified to see doctors that waste my time, money, and sanity. This was 4 years ago that I saw Dr. Thielen, and I am still traumatized by her treatment.

Dr. Thielen has always treated me well with her no nonsense approach and practical advice. I like the way she explains everything clearly and makes sure I understand what is going on. Doesn’t immediately order drugs or expensive tests, gives advice to get immune system working.

I have gone to Dr Thielen for an annual visit for a few years in a row. She is the only doctor that I have gone to that is very thorough and takes a lot of time covering everything. She also takes time to call with test results and go over everything. I no longer live in Steamboat but have traveled back here to have an appointment with her.

She’s personable and determines the best treatment for the condition.

I came in for a pelvic exam/std test, something no one likes to do. I expressed that I was a bit nervous but the nurse assured me that Dr. Thielen would be gentle. After asking if I had unprotected sex recently I answered no hesistant to give too many details. She began to lecture me on using condoms etc. I then told her the recent unprotected sex I had was not consensual and was traumatic. She didn’t apologize for the lecture only replied that there wasn’t a high risk for stds. She began with the exam and asked me to relax as she inserted the metal piece. Her method to trying to get me to relax was telling me to “pretend it was a p*nis” and I told her that that advice wasn’t helpful and she responded with “well pretend it’s a hard p*nis”. She then was fumbling around in the drawer unwrapping things she needed and checking to make sure those items weren’t expired while the metal piece it still inside of me. Needless to say this was a less than pleasant experience.

Every time my wife and I are at Steamboat Medical Dr. Thielen and her staff handle our needs with exceptional care.

Dr. Theilen was great to work with. Efficient and thorough. She has a very calming demeanor and answered my questions in a way I could understand.

Dr. Thielen is very attentive, listens to all your concerns, and makes sure you are doing all those preventive tests, etc.

Dr. Thielen answered all of my questions and was quite helpful.

If you haven’t seen her, DO ITTTT! She’s down to earth, funny and straight to the point!

The first thing Thielen did was prescribe me birth control without any consultation, despite the fact that I came in for a completely unrelated matter. I've never felt shamed or judged by a doctor until this visit. She would not let me explain that I've had the same partner for 5 years, that prescription birth has been detrimental to my mental health and hormones in the past, and that I would've like to hear alternatives. She even scowled at me when she found out I live in Employee Housing (not because I want to), and then told me to lay off drugs, alcohol, and one-night stands. Had she looked at my health history as written on the paperwork I did prior to seeing her, she would've seen that I have a history of family members losing their lives to substance abuse, which is why I do not partake in those activities. Thielen is too stuck in the past and her own judgement to provide effective care; waste of time, waste of money, and only further demonstrating our failed health care system.

One of the best doctor I have ever met before. Very careful, patient and know what Patients need. Strongly recommend.

My family went to Steamboat for ski vacation last Christmas holidays. I got very bad high altitude sickness with nausea and vomiting, which caused dehydrated. My wife contacted Dr. Thielen’s Office and visited the urgent care with me. It is pretty late. the staff in her office are very friendly and warmly and make me feel home. Dr. Thielen examined me carefully, explained the diagnosis clearly and gave me timely treatment. I was deeply impressed by her patience and expertise. After her treatment, I quickly recovered and still enjoyed skiing in the rest of week. She saved me a ski vacation! Really appreciated!

What a joke. Billed me for over 300 dollars to tell me she could not help me.

Dr Thielen listens attentively and is very thorough

Came in with unexplained pain behind my knee. I could hardly walk on it. Two times I described that I also had a sharp pain in my right lung and asked if the two symptoms could indicate a blood clot? (just Googled before my appt.). Dr. Thielen examined me and said no, she though it was just inflammation and to ice it and wear a knee brace for 2 weeks. Four months later, I had a severe DVT/ PE and according to the ER doctor, was very lucky to be alive. She missed the extremely obvious.
