BEWARE: Dishonest & Uncaring
I visited Dr. Kaneshiro for help with a lifelong gastro issue. Dr. Kaneshiro kept recommending I take over-the-counter medications. He even insinuated that I was lying about my symptoms. I listed all of the OTC medications I've tried and explained my former gastro expert, Dr. Jorge Rodriguez, recommended that I have an endoscopy and colonoscopy performed (Dr. Jorge Rodriguez's office didn't have the equipment to do this, which was why I was recommended to the UCLA medical facility). I finally convinced Dr. Kaneshiro to set me up for a colonoscopy. He said he would do it if I took double the cleansing liquid needed and fasted for two days instead of one. My pharmacist called me and told me he was shocked by this. Fast-forward, I'm hit with a $460 bill for the 30-minute session (the end of the summary print-out I was given was even timestamped to show it was only a 30-minute visit). Kaneshiro said he billed me for an hour for work done outside of seeing me face-to-face. Disappointed.

Dr. Kaneshiro is a very competent gastroenterologist serving at UCLA. I was referred to him by another physician and I've been more than pleased with the care he has provided. Dr. Kaneshiro explains things very well and I always feel informed and confident regarding the information he provides to me. If you are looking for a caring, competent and highly knowledgable GI physician, I highly recommend Dr. Marc Kaneshiro without ANY hesitation.

He listened to my gastro issues. Entertained some other possible issues and tested for many issues to try and figure out stomach issues. Appreciate his willingness to listen and try different tests. Plus the care I received at UCLA before during and after tests was exceptional

Dr. Kaneshiro appears to be a competent physician, but does little to explain the pros and cons of various treatment options. He resorted to telling me the extreme scenario. Did nothing to tell me the likelihood of the various possibilities, and simply said "I can't know" to every relevant question. As a result, the patient's decision making is made on the basis of almost not relevant information. This would appear to be irresponsible on the behalf of the physician. In the very least, doctor's should not only do their best to share relevant medical information, but to provide enough information to make an informed decision about their health. I can only conclude that Dr. Kaneshiro does not care enough to do so or simply is incapable of doing so.

Dr. Kaneshiro is friendly and professional. He took the time to explain his findings each time he performed colonoscopies for me by repeatedly calling me on the phone.

I have seen my fair share of GI Drs since I wasn't 18, having CROHNS and over 20 surgeries. I fight hard to live as normal a life as possible. Dr. Kaneshiro was clearly inexperienced with my particular issue. He failed to fully read the history I typed up and blew me off with regard to my knowledge of my own body. I would not recommend him if you are female and familiar with your own disease. I felt he truly took an attitude. His understudy was much more personable and knowledgeable.
