Very thorough, very patient
Dr Sullivan has been my primary physician since I moved to AZ about 7 years ago and I've had occasion to visit him many times. I have found him to be friendly, very thorough, and extremely patient. In addition to asking lots of questions to get to the root of a problem or correctly identify a next step, he answers questions and explains concepts well. What that means is that his appts sometimes run long and he can get behind, but I've not found that to be major issue. The occasional no-shows and 5-minute flu shots for the most part balance out the appts that run over. Contrast that to some specialists I see, where you get 10 minutes of face time with a doctor or MA and if the appt starts to run over, you're told to schedule a follow-up. In addition, his staff is top tier as well. Like a lot of businesses, he's had some turnover, but the people he hires are always much like him - polite, professional, and patient. I recommend Dr Sullivan without reservation.

Time management is a problem. Wait times are 1-2 hours. He pushed Inspire implant on me when I was well short of the criteria to qualify. He seemed angry when I rejected Inspire. Office is often short staffed and phone calls get routed to someone offsite who is limited in what she can do. No number to reach office manager. I was told I should drive to the office for assistance. 6 months ago he gave me mammogram script for SMiL but smile won't honor script because he hasn't got ROPA certified. Office manager didn't know what that was. Once they figured it out, she said he would get certied. It's been 6 months and he still hasn't got certified. Ive had to cancel my mammogram for 2nd time. I'm starting to look for a new provider.

Disappointed in Scottsdale, AZ – Nov 16, 2024

I've never felt more invisible or neglected. On my initial visit I filled out the required forms including answering - Did I smoke? No. Did I drink? occasionally - 2-3 drinks a month. Exercise? 3-4+ days/week. I was weighed,(I'm just under 5'3" and weigh betw 98 &102) blood pressure, etc. and saw dr. sullivan. who went over my forms quickly ordered a blood panel and we were done. the 2nd appt was going over the results. I was shocked ! He recommended the following: Lose weight. I weigh 98-102lbs, how much weight do you want me to lose? Exercise more. How much more do you want me to exercise? My coach never had to ask me to exercise more. Cut back on drinking. I wrote 2-3 glasses a MONTH, how much more do you want me to cut back?? The wait times are always more than 45min and there's no-one there! The only positive I have to offer is that dr, sullivan will write a referral so you can be seen by a qualified doctor .

Excellent, Caring, Smart , Thorough
He addressed all of my concerns professionally and kindly, asking relevant questions. He did not rush out or rush me out, a refreshing experience compared to some other doctors' appointments. Definitely not a corporate feeling in this office with this family doctor! He and his staff were helpful and caring. I would highly recommend this wonderful doctor to my family and friends!

My husband had a Duo appointment with this doctor at 8:00 AM. Waited 10:30…11:30…3:00…Dr. Sullivan finally called at 8:15 PM! So frustrating. He became very rude with an attitude when we expressed our frustration. “I have more important appointments while you sit on your couch and watch TV”, he stated. Find another provider that has more respect for patients.

Mom has been going to Dr Sullivan for several years. While he is pleasant, he does not read/record all experiences (e.g., Mom had a allergic reaction to a medication, he provided an alternative, then scolded her for not taking both the old and new medication). Front office staff is indifferent, bordering on rude. Only reason we had continued to be a patient was location convenience. That is no longer worth it. Phones are never answered and you will spend hours waiting for your scheduled appointment.

Very disappointed in the way he talked and treated my mother. Seems like it’s all about the money I would not Recommend him to anyone especially older folks. The wait time in his office is ridiculous and the office staff just disappointing

Tried to use Dr. Sullivan as new PCP. Showed up for an 8:30 appointment. At 9:30 I had not been taken care of, and there were no signs that would happen any time soon. Dr. Sullivan was walking around the office with a baby on his hip. Julie, the receptionist, was trying her best, but it is obvious the practice is over-booked and under-staffed. So, after 1 hr of waiting, I realized I didn't want Dr. Sullivan as my new PCP and I walked out.

Dr. Sullivan has the best Support Personnel and Medical Assistants of any Doctors I ever had and I am 73 years old. They are professional, efficient, pleasant and show extreme care for their patients. You always know that they follow through on their promises. Dr. Sullivan is also very good and knowledgeable and spends a great deal of time with his patients (which may be a fractional negative since wait times become longer for the next patient.) -- Z

I stopped going there after multiple appts. that took too long. One time I had a painful ear infection, spent 2 hours only to be told he wasn't comfortable treating it, to make an appointment with a specialist. Then, the office overcharged me. I was billed shortly after a previous visit and paid. A year later I was sent a bill for services that my insurance had paid in full. It took some time to get this straightened out with their billing dept (which is in another state). Billing finally agreed that the bill was in error and I was, in fact, due a refund for the portion paid; however, they were unable to issue a refund. I would need to contact the office for that. I tried contacting the office multiple times, leaving messages when possible. When I actually spoke to a person, I was told they couldn't help, but would pass this on to the office manager who never contacted me. This is still not resolved. If you go here, have time to waste and watch your charges and EOBs carefully.

Both my fiancé and myself left our primary of many years due to fact that he changed to a concierge practice. We were optimistic about dr. Sullivan and was extremely disappointed in both his staff and his business model. Turns out to be a factory model where it’s quantity over quality care. Both his staff and himself (nurse practitioner is an exception) were both incompetent even just getting our records as well as trying to get the doctor to call back was impossible. When confronting him I get “ I understand your frustration but. I don’t like your tone”. I was neither rude or loud just frustrated. He then hung up on me, how unprofessional. I thought that I couldn’t get him to return a call but then he was quick to attack me. I never really do reviews but I am so upset that I felt I needed to.

Friendly, personable, knowledgeable, and confident. He diagnosed and treated a chronic condition in a way that I was comfortable with, which I had given up on getting any relief from years ago. His staff is always awesome, and I've never been left languishing in the waiting room. Doesn't leave the room until everything I've brought up is resolved or otherwise addressed. I'm not sure what else I could ask for from a primary care doc, other than same/next day scheduling for non-emergencies.
