My experience with Dr. Chen was horrendous. She is very focused on her credentials and is dismissive. My 87 year old mother who is in good health was seeing her for trigennial neurology (TN) severe nerve pain. She prescribed a non narcotic nerve blocker. My mother had a reaction to the meds. Dr. Chen would not answer emails or return phone calls. My mother ended up at her primary care doctor. Her primary care physician was able to reach Dr. Chen. Dr. Chen labeled my mother as combative (my mom is a sweet heart),confused (my mother is functioning at a high cognitive level),implied she was going to have a stroke (although she didn't have one single symptom) and claimed my mother was abusing the nerve drug (it is not narcotic). My mother was following the dose that was prescribed by Chen. Dr. Chen is insensitive and should not be caring for elderly patients. She told me that my mom isn't going to die from the pain and that she should be able to handle it.

Dr. Chen could not stop talking about her credentials and statistics long enough to do an exam. The manner in which I was treated was like a child by an almost patient adult. The doctor refused to listen when conversation turned close to another specialist. Any reference to disease outside of neurological issues was met with “you’ll have to see that specialist.” even when there was no need. As this appointment was drawing to an abrupt end- I walked out- the doctor began cursing at me.

Dr. Chen prescribed me a migraine preventative medication which has pretty much eliminated my migraines!!! I used to get debilitating vestibular migraines and she diagnosed and treated the condition properly, a relief after seeing other doctors in the area who couldn't solve this issue or diagnose it correctly. She emails me, calls me back personally and I think she is very good, I have referred others to her. My migraines are gone!!! Thank you, Dr. Chen!

I found Dr. Chen to be insensitive, and not adaptable to people who look different than she does. In the midst of my discomfort and headache she was focused on her credentials. She seemed arrogant and self-centered. In my opinion, her manner restricts her from focusing on her craft. I believe she needs diversity training to work at a Hospital like the U of P. I would not recommend Dr. Chen to anyone, because of her lack of interpersonal skills expertise.
