Dr. Mark Barakat, MD

I had been seeing another retinal specialist for years. That doctor treated his patients like cattle - lining us up against a wall while waiting to see him. He left the door open while giving advice to patients, all within earshot of the ‘lined up’ patients. Worst of all, (and unbeknownst to me), he was ‘treating’ me for a barely existent problem. I decided to see another eye specialist and, thank God, I went to Dr. Barakat! He is extremely knowledgeable, engaged with the patients, and doesn’t rush through appointments. Most importantly, he’s honest. The examination I received by him and his staff was extremely thorough. And I found out the ‘condition’ for which I had been treated for years, was not nearly as bad as I had been led to believe - a great relief to me. Instead of following up very 3 months as I was required to do by doctor #1, Dr. Barakat wants to see me in a year. I was beyond impressed with Dr. Barakat (and his staff). I highly recommend this excellent doctor!

Dr. Barakat is very knowledgeable and has been treating my macular degeneration for two years. I would not trust anyone else with my eyes and vision. He is very thorough and takes the time to explain things in a simple comprehensible way. He is my favorite doctor. His staff is very nice and helpful. I recommend him to anyone and everyone.

Awesome. He is honest and gives you the information you need. I am from the north east and spend 6 months in Arizona will be making my next appointment before I go home.

I had a 2:00 appointment in the Payson office and was surprised to see a completely full waiting room when I arrived. I asked the receptionist if I had a long wait and she said 10-15 minutes. 45 minutes later I heard people who had checked in 30 minutes before me complaining about the wait. I asked the receptionist and she said they had technical difficulties. They certainly could have told the room that they were shut down and let us reschedule our appointments if needed and not just let us sit there all afternoon. I canceled my appointment and left. It seemed like they had over scheduled appointments in 5 minute increments which is impossible to meet. I'm not interested in working with doctors who have such little regard for patient's time. Our time is also valuable and inconsideration is never ok.

Arrogant and patronizing

Dr B diagnosed my issue and explained options. He took time to explain. It was easy to understand the options. I chose the procedure. Day of procedure, everyone did a good job with check in and anesthesia prep. Procedure was less than 45 minutes and results were good. Recovery was just as described.

I see Dr. Barakat in Payson, AZ. I would like him to know how much we appreciate the fact that he cares enough about our vision that he comes to us, saving us the travel time. My sisters and I get injections for AMD. Being able to just go directly home and put cold compression on our eyes greatly reduces our discomfort. He is always friendly, ready to answer our questions and address our concerns. He is also always trying to find treatments that might be better for each of us. Thank you for all your efforts on our behalf.

I started to see Dr. Barakat for blurry vision in my right eye. I have been under his care for 2 years now. He is always very friendly and takes time to answer all my questions. He is always happy and his singing makes me smile and feel at ease. I would highly recommend him and his staff.

Great doctor. Pleasant and caring Gentle manner

Dr Barakat is a highly skilled retina ophthalmologist. He has been treating me for a hole in my retina. He is detailed in his explanations , yet presents the information so a lay person can understand. I really appreciate how he includes his patients in the treatment decision making, yet gives his recommendations for achieving the best possible outcome. Dr. Barakat is an excellent surgeon. He successfully repaired a horseshoe tear of my retina. He is wonderful with patients as he takes the time to thoroughly listen and explain treatment options and methods. I highly recommend him for anyone who needs retinal surgery.
