So thankful I found Dr Drakos!
So thankful I found Dr Drakos!I had a botched foot surgery from a local podiatrist which really rendered me barely mobile for 14 months. It was a struggle to walk and my job requires me to be on my feet for many hours. Dr Drakos performed a fusion revision with graft of the big toe joint. It was a tough and long recovery but well worth it! He and his team literally got me back up on my feet and I could not be more grateful!! Thank you Drakos team!!

Excellent, caring surgeon!
Dr Drakos was recommended to me by another physician to repair a foot fracture and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. I was given both conservative treatment options as well as surgery and felt surgery offered me the best possible outcome. Dr Drakos outlined what to expect in terms of my recovery and everything turned out just as he described. I am now 4 months post-op playing sports, taking lengthy walks and best of all pain free. So much so, I often forget I had surgery! I'm very grateful I found my way to this outstanding surgeon!

Just a elite surgeon with no empathy for patients
Dr. Drakos is probably one of those elite surgeons who doesn’t seem to have empathy for patients and treat them like commodities. It was my first visit today for my ankle injury and I had x-ray and MRI ready. After 1.5 hours of waiting in the office, the “personal assistant” came in, asked some basic questions and immediately suggested 2 surgery options to me. Then they asked me to take an additional stress x-ray immediately. When I requested to meet the doctor first because I want to seek his opinion in the MRI and ask some questions, doctor said to my face “are you the doctor? and kept me waiting while he dealt with other patients. I left after 2 hours of endless waiting. If you are looking for a caring doctor who listens to your needs and care about the history of your injury, don’t choose this one, because you will most likely end up being thrown around by bunch of “assistants”.

Terrible communication
This doctor and his PA treat their patients like idiots. It took multiple rounds of emails to get an answer to why the recovery timeline in the paperwork for the surgery didn't match what was discussed in the consult and what I should expect. I think when you are letting someone cut open your foot, the least you can do is actually explain the surgery correctly (another multiple round of emails post consult to get clarity there) and give them a realistic timeline of recovery, to say nothing of a detailed post op protocol. When was having trouble understanding why I needed hardware put into my foot instead of explaining it to me he just said 'That's just what I always do'. A simple google search of the proposed operation gave me more detail than the doc would in the consult. He is condescending and treat patients like pieces of meat. Avoid if you can.

Rude.
I had same experience as others. Dr. Drakos was rude and arrogant and it was really a waste of time. I guess his attitude might depend on the day and his mood and possibly if he considers you a surgical candidate. Dr. Drakos did not want to operate but another doctor in the same group did. Now getting third opinion. Also agree that having Dr.Drakos as part of HSS staff does not help reputation of HSS.

Excellent Surgeon and professional
Dr. Drakos is a top surgeon - a pioneer with excellence in everything he does in my experience as a patient. I had toe surgery and it went well and I'm healed. Look at his HSS rating if you need more convincing :) it's 4.9 for 700+ people.

Hanluns deformity
I saw Dr Drakos based on his approach to my ankle, I had both ankles done. I’m still recovering, but actually no pain and the progress after surgery is amazing and quick compare to other approaches to this problem.

Highly Reccomend!!
I was advised to see Dr. Drakos after I had a bad fall and broke 6 bones in my ankle. He was so knowledgeable, professional, and confident!!! Dr. Drakos and his entire staff were so caring and I felt it. I had surgery with him and he also needed to replace my cartilage in my ankle. The surgery and recovery went off without a hitch, He explained to me everything about the injury and what I can expect for the recovery. My care was top notch!

Didn’t even read MRI or Scans
Drakos was my 2nd opinion, which if we would have discussed my MRI findings, the report, or scans - I wouldn’t be leaving this review. He was curt, basically rude, refused to listen to my concerns or what I have tried over the past 2 years and to explain why I’m here , and just wanted to write me off. Never went over my MRI. Never went over my X-rays. Never went over radiology report. Nothing. Coming to HSS, I have to tell you, I expected better Drs. Should have gone to O’Mally in NYC. I didn’t even request a follow up. I can only imagine how awful his bedside manner would be if I did let him operate on me. Couldn’t have left that office fast enough.

Extremely Knowledgeable
I saw Dr. Drakos in February regarding knee pain. After attempting to describe the pain I was having, Dr. Drakos knew exactly what I was talking about and articulated his thoughts with professionalism and self-possession. He immediately recommended, and demonstrated, exercises to do help alleviate the pain and connected me with a physical therapist the same day. It is obvious how knowledgeable and efficient Dr. Drakos is and I cannot recommend him enough. Thanks Dr. Drakos!!!

If I could give him a hundred stars I would. I took my daughter to SIX other doctors for an ankle issue before finally making my way to HSS and Dr. Drakos. He diagnosed her properly and performed a flawless surgery on her. Six weeks later, an issue she has had for close to 18 months is fixed and she is well on her way to a full recovery. His bedside manner is amazing - he instilled complete confidence in both of us that we had finally found the right doctor. The day of surgery he actually seemed excited to get this done for her. After the surgery he clearly explained what he did, and why he did it. We drive from Connecticut to see him and honestly, I’d take a flight if I had to - he’s that good. His staff is also fantastic. I highly recommend him. He’s a fabulous surgeon, a really nice guy, and simply the best at what he does.

Dr. Drakos was my 6th doctor I visited for my issue. REPAIR ACHILLES TENDON EXOSTECTOMY LOWER EXTREMITY; CALCANEAL. I chose him because of his staff and because he actually sat down to answer ALL of my questions. He even explained what he was actually going to do and gave me a # of how many times he had done the procedure. I never felt rushed or pressured. The day of the surgery Dr. Drakos really seemed like he was in his element. He was very happy and excited. He REALLY made me feel at ease. And the staff at the ambulatory HSS is phenomenal down to the security! The PA Nicole and Nurse practitioner are also phenomenal. He has chosen an amazing TEAM!

Dr Drakos was kind and caring. He recommended extracorporeal shockwave therapy as an alternative to surgery to treat a very, very painful heel spur His staff was also over the top professional and thorough. I am very happy with the results How many orthopedic surgeons do you think would suggest a non surgical treatment ? Dr Drakos prescribed what was best for me not his bottom line. I think he’s a wonderful Dr and am so happy I went to him after getting 8 shots in my heel over the years. The ESWT really worked !,,,,

I met Dr. Drakos after I broke my ankle and the Hospital for Special Surgery was recommended to me. So happy I followed that advice. He was friendly, compassionate and professional. The whole staff and the Uniondale office as well as the hospital in the city are wonderful. Helpful, courteous, willing to answer all questions and put you at ease. Surgery was successful and while I'm still in physical therapy, I'm confident that I'm well on my way to a full recovery back to normal. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Drakos to anyone who asked.

I broke the heel of my left foot in an accident more than two years ago. I elected not to have surgery because of dire warning from my doctor at the time. Fast forward a year later and the bone did not heal properly. At my appointment with Dr. Drakos he told me that if I wanted wanted quality of life, less pain and the ability to walk longer and farther that I should have a fusion. I am still in the healing phase but am feeling significantly better and am hopeful. He is a very compassionate and skilled surgeon. He takes the time to explain things, listens to the patient and never rushes you. His staff is extremely competent, professional and personally care about the patient. The post surgical care is exemplary. I would recommend Dr. Drakos to anyone experiencing problems with their feet.

Dr. Drakos had the challenging job of fixing a messed up foot. I had surgery prior with another doctor who was unable to fix the problem. Dr Drakos went in there and did a great repair job. He and his staff are very polite and pleasant and get back to me immediately with any questions or concerns I might have. Great team, highly skilled professional, I'd recommend him to friends and family.
