This lady literally saved my life. She saw something very wrong, made calls to cardiologists at the larger hospital nearby, started me on medicines to begin the treatment process, secured ambulance transportation, and got me a direct-admit to Mercy North Iowa where I spent a week under the care of skilled and training cardiologists who diagnosed and are still studying my heart for congestive heart failure. Three other ER visits between 2 hospitals ended with me being sent home with medicines after scans showed no blood clots. This time the FOURTH time was the charm! I can't stress enough how her kind, patient demeanor and her persistence to ensure her patient gets the treatment they need are perfect for an ER setting! She's the calm in the storm. I was absolutely terrified, and she made me feel so confident in her suggestions of what needed to be done (transfer to a cardiology ward) and so relieved that finally someone looked deeper than the knee-jerk reactions and same repetitive tests the other doctors performed, that I can't help but credit her with preserving my life! After that week inpatient, and I'm the time since, I've dropped almost 100# of fluid/weight from the regimen of meds the cardiologists put me on and I feel like a completely different person. I thought I was dying when I went into Dr Nicol's ER, and I came out the other side feeling better than I have in YEARS!! She is a blessing!!
