Dr. Maryanne McDonnell, MD

Always excellent. And in reference to the woman who complained that Dr. McDonnell wanted to do an internal exam (God forbid! not at a gynocologist's!! how dare they! & maybe a D&C !! ) Well, a few years back I was about the same age & also had spotting and if Dr. McDonnell had not suggested that they do an exam, D&C etc, they would not have found that I had pre-cancerous cells in my uterus. I had to have a hysterectomy but now I am cancer free!

I am 52. I am having severe hot flashes. Extreme irritability. Crying. I am a disaster. I go to the doctor. Because it's menopause. Obviously. Dr McDonnell asks if I'm still bleeding I say spotting, yes. She says I'm not in menopause then, and to come back when I actually stop bleeding. I say ok, I'm in perimenopause, and I am having the really bad symptoms NOW, so I'd like to be helped NOW. She says there's nothing she can do. I ask about HRT. She says we can talk about it after I've stopped all periods. I ask about estrogen birth control, and she says that wouldn't treat any of the symptoms I'm talking about. And then she suggests maybe I should go see a therapist to discuss the irritability and depression. .. She told me. To go see. A therapist. Then she hands me a list of invasive procedures she'd like to do because I am spotting. Pelvic exam. Internal ultrasound. A D&C?!? Went to another doctor. External ultrasound and HRT. That easy. I literally wouldn't send a rock to her.

Dr.McDonnell is warm and friendly. She listens carefully and gives solid advice. She knows gynecology and cares about her patients. And she’s gentle!

She is easy to talk to and had a great bedside manner.

My experience with Dr. McDonnell was excellent. I have spent the last 4 years trying to find a gynecologist who can work with older women who are in menopause. Dr. McDonnell, unlike many off her colleagues, actually took the time to listen to me and was very thoughtful in her approach to managing my health issues. I cannot recommend Dr. McDonnell more highly.
