Dr. Matthew Alvarez, MD

Dr. Alvarez has been my obgyn for almost 20 years! I've only ever had great things to say about him. My daughter is starting to work with him as well. He is kind and gentle, a real 'daddy' kind of guy. Not to mention a brilliant doctor.

Background information: I am 40, it took us over a year to conceive, and I took prenatal vitamins with 800mcg folic acid per recommendation from Dr Alvarez while trying to conceive. We had a pregnancy that was determined to be non viable at 20 weeks due to a neural tube defect. At our follow up visit post medically necessary D&E with Dr Alvarez, we asked why we were not recommended to take 4mg folic acid, which we were only informed of by Duke Maternal Fetal Medicine who determined the neural tube defect. Dr Alvarez responded with “I dropped the ball on that”. Dr Alvarez “dropping the ball” had massive repercussions for us, resulting in the loss of a baby. Completely flippant response. He then told us to take 4mg folic acid then try again in 3 months. Which I found to be dismissive. I requested a specialist referral and was given nothing. I have transferred care to Duke who has run a number of tests and told me we need to wait for safety reasons. Big NO on Dr Alvarez.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Alvarez for several years, and I can’t recommend him enough! He is consistently kind, thoughtful, and incredibly attentive to detail. He truly listens to his patients and always ensures you feel comfortable and cared for.This week, I visited him to have my birth control implant removed after my hysterectomy (which he performed as well), and as always, the experience was seamless. He took the time to explain everything and made sure I was at ease throughout the process.Dr. Alvarez is also very reliable and available whenever I need him, which is rare to find in a doctor these days. If you’re looking for a gynecologist who genuinely cares about your well-being, he’s the best there is!P.S. Their office staff is consistently pleasant, friendly and efficient which is an added bonus!

Dr. Alvarez is extremely well-informed in areas of women's health. I hear so many women complain about their provider's lack of familiarity with recent research in women's specific needs. Dr. Alvarez always answers my questions thoroughly and with great patience. In fact, I drive 35 minutes to see him rather than find a provider local to me. Highly recommend him.

I have been seeing Dr. Alvarez for over 20 years. He is a fabulous listener, very intelligent and most of all he is kind. He cares about you as a person.

Dr. Alvarez is very personable. He is very knowledgeable, thorough and does an excellent job. He is very respectful and entertaining. He acts like he has all the time in the world to address your concerns and answer your questions. He seems to really care about people. He makes the experience as pleasant as possible. He does an excellent job and is very professional.

Dr. Alvarez is absolutely amazing. He takes very good care of his patients and treats you with the most respect and care. He Never rushes you like a lot of doctors do. He Is very thorough and knowledgeable in his practice. He explains things in your terms and doesn't make you feel dumb if you don't fully understand. He never jumps to conclusions and really takes the time to care for you. 10/10! I couldn't have asked for a more professional, knowledgeable and caring doctor.

Dr. Alvarez performed a D&C for my missed miscarriage discovered on 10 week ultrasound. I have recovered with virtually no pain or bleeding, and I am thankful for his technical expertise. Despite the unfortunate and heartbreaking circumstances, he made my husband and I feel as calm and comfortable as possible, and we did not feel judged for any of our questions or reactions.

Was very impressed with him at appointments and the delivery of my baby. Would highly recommend him as well as all the Doctors in the practice!
