Dr. Matthew Blue, MD

I have had pain in my right knee for 2 years. It has gotten worse. I do physical therapy exercises and stretching at home daily, take anti-inflammatory (NSAID), and use a lot of ice. Everyone else stated it was just 'normal arthritis pain' (I have both OA and RA). Dr. Blue requested x-rays and an MRI. As soon as I lose 20 lbs. and quit smoking, I will be getting TKR surgery because of the damage to the meniscus, joint itself, etc. After my initial visit with Dr. Blue, the longest wait was for an MRI appointment (6 weeks out). All my appointments with Dr. Blue were within a week of when I called.

This review is written on behalf of my mom (age 66) who trusted Dr. Blue with a hip replacement. Within a few weeks of surgery, she felt that the recovery was not going as expected. Physical therapy was excruciating and pain killers did not help. She lost her ability to walk at a time when her mobility and strength should have improved. When she expressed her concerns at her 4-week appointment, Dr. Blue said it 'was a normal part of recovery' and that she should wait it out. My mom continued to express that her condition was not improving and Dr. Blue's office did not treat her with urgency. She went to the ER once in crippling pain and we had to continuously ask for additional testing. Their office should have referred her to pain management much sooner (they didn't until Week 17). Eventually, we started working with another doctor's office. We found out that she has an infection around her hip replacement. Dr. Blue's office did not diligently test her condition to support her care.

I had been in a lot of pain in my left hip, and my primary care doctor referred me to the group of Johnson County orthopedic surgeons. I was fortunate to get an appointment with Dr. Blue who was fairly new to this group. From the start, he has a kind and intelligent staff who make scheduling easy. Dr. Blue from the start made me feel secure and positive that I would have a successful surgery. He is calming and explains anything you ask. During the surgery he had to rebuild part of my hip due to severe arthritis indicating I’d been walking on a broken hip. He fixed it all, and when I woke up, I was nearly pain free. He came to see me in the hospital and explained what he’d found. Now a little over a month later, I just need a cane for a little while more, but I’m pain free and have been extremely happy with Dr. Blue’s skills. I hope more patients discover Dr. Blue and will be as pleased as I’ve been.
