Unknowledgeable about POTS and no empathy
Dr Needleman repeatedly told us he didn't know much about POTS. I'm in a wheelchair because I'm in danger of passing out when I stand up, and he told me to do aerobic activity. He also said 'There is good news. I don't know anyone in their 30's or 40's that has POTS, so just push through and live your life and it will get better.' I am 20 years old, I can't work, I can't drive, I can't do anything my friends are doing, and his best medical advice is to wait 10 or 20 years and hope I get better. Maybe he doesn't know anyone in their 30's or 40's with POTS because they gave up on going to an unempathetic doctor with no knowledge of POTS. My mom and I left the office and cried because he made us feel hopeless about me getting better. The only good thing he did was refer me to a physical therapist that was shocked when we told her what he said. She told me not to do aerobic activity, but instead has me doing exercises from the POTS protocol that I do while laying down.
