A Warning About Dr. McCarty I am writing this review as a warning to anyone considering surgery with Dr. McCarty. My experience has been devastating—not just due to medical errors but because of the lies, cover-ups, and financial exploitation that followed. Dr. McCarty performed cataract surgery on my right eye in October of 2024 and implanted the wrong lens, completely disregarding the agreed-upon plan. Instead of taking accountability, she deflected, leaving me to push for corrective surgery. That procedure resulted in severe complications, including corneal edema, which has left me without vision. Despite following all prescribed treatments, there has been no improvement. To make matters worse, I was charged for the lens exchange that was only necessary because of Dr. McCarty’s original mistake. Rather than acknowledging her error and correcting it at no cost, I was forced to pay for a procedure that should never have been needed in the first place. Because of her negligence, I now have to undergo a DSEK (Descemet’s Stripping Endothelial Keratoplasty) with a corneal specialist—my only chance at regaining my sight and life back. Even with this procedure, there is no guarantee that my vision will be restored. What’s worse than the mistakes themselves is the deception. Rather than owning up to what happened, Dr. McCarty has avoided responsibility, offering misleading explanations instead of the truth. Patients trust their doctors to act with integrity, but that trust was completely shattered in my case. I strongly urge anyone considering eye surgery to seek a second opinion before putting their vision in the hands of Dr. McCarty. No one should have to endure what I have gone through due to negligence, dishonesty, and financial exploitation.

She’s very observant and detailed with her work. I have been going to her for a good while now and have never once had a bad experience. I highly recommend!

Dr. McCarthy has the best, cordial interaction with her patients. She expresses her gratitude over having you as a patient. The best part is that she did great work. I had no idea how much I was missing with my droopy eyelids. It was so droopy she even had to do an eyebrow lift. That was no picnic so I was thankful I was in great hands. Even my dermatologist examined her work and said she was an artist. I am a safer driver because I now have great peripheral vision. Thank you Dr. McCarthy

She was very helpful and understanding. Very thorough and answered all my questions.

I went to her for a consult about getting an eyelid growth removed. She was rude and disinterested and gave me almost no information. I did nothing to elicit her strange behavior. I would never let her touch my eye. The visit was a complete waste of my time.

Appointment was on time. The three pieces of the appointment were on time. The next scheduled testing, the surgery and the surgery follow up visit were all scheduled before I left the office. What’s not to like? Efficiency and knowledge.

I liked how she was able to explain things that helped me make an informed decision about the surgery and was able to demonstrate things well. She was very personable and made me feel at ease an heard!

While Catalina Surgery Center was great, I found Dr. McCarty disdainful, contemptuous, and egotistical. She had no bedside manner, lacked empathy or concern, and was uninterested in ensuring my 79 year old mother felt secure and comfortable prior to surgery. She acted exasperated by the questions we asked prior to the procedure, and showed little patience or understanding. I don't feel she should work with the elderly.
