Beware of LARS
He performed my two colon surgeries. Great doctor. He always came to check on me while recuperating in the hospital when he said he would and would take some time to chat and made me feel more comfortable in an uncomfortable situation. In general, however, I was not given any information whatsoever regarding LARS (lower anterior re-section syndrome) until my 3 month checkup after the re-section. When I called regarding my concerns, I was told to see a Gastro doctor. I did that and found them to be no help at all. It's been 3 years I have had LARS with no relief. I did, however, find a very helpful online website called "Living with LARS". It is not a medical advice website. It is just a place for us Larsinians to "vent". We are many.

Ultimate professional
Dr. Michael Buckmire performed colon surgery on me. During our first meeting, he carefully and thoroughly explained the surgery and the potential complications that could result. His demeanor was very professional and encouraging so I was comfortable going ahead with the surgery. At Banner Desert, the medical staff spoke highly of him and the care from them and Dr. Buckmire could not have been any better. An absolutely professional team with another successful surgery and recovery! I recommend him without hesitation!

Top Notch!!
I couldn't have asked for a better doctor or medical team during what was a very stressful time with multiple surgeries. Dr. Buckmire and his team were always there to answer the questions I had and make me feel comfortable through the process. Everyone was always kind, patient and caring. I highly recommend him and his team if you need a good health care provider.

Excellent Doctor
Dr Buckmire has done my colonoscopies for the past several years & recently was my surgeon for a colon resection. He has done an excellent job in all procedures, & has a great bedside manner. He takes time to explain things thoroughly & answers all my questions.

Best colorectal doctor in Arizona
Dr. Buckmire is the consumate professional and an amazing doctor. Several years ago he operated on my son when he needed to have an iliostomy procedure. The procedure litterally changed my son's life from one of constant pain to now enjoying all that life has to offer. Based on our experience from my son's procedure I reached out when I needed a hemorrhoidectomy. After years of suffering myself, I scheduled an appointment. From the very first appointment to 5 weeks post-op where I was released for needing follow-up care, Dr Buckmire was quick to reply to issues, and has an incredible bedside manner. The hemorrhoidectomy recovery is the most painful experience Ive ever gone through. At no time did I ever feel I was bothering him with my calls or feel put off by him. He or one of his team members were quick to reply, offering guidance and helping me get through it. I am proufoundly happy we picked Dr Buckmire as my surgeon (and my son's). I highly recommend Dr. Buckmire if you

Dr. Buckmire is a rockstar. I had repeated bouts of diverticulitis and knew surgery was going to be inevitable. I was terrified. So I went in for a consult and he patiently answered all my questions and even handed me a tissue as I was so scared and emotional. He spent longer explaining things than any other physician I’ve seen. I decided on the surgery-still scared but he remained reassuring. Surgery went much better than I anticipated. Post surgery my pain was very controlled. He visited several times. The nurses like him as he is respectful toward them as well. When it came time for me to be discharged and things were being unnecessarily delayed, he was an advocate for me and took care of it promptly. I had very little problems afterward and I am feeling better than I have for a few years. He is highly skilled with the bedside manner you want. I have already recommended him. Thanks Dr. Buckmire!

Dr. Buckmire went above and beyond concerning my surgery. He truly cares about his patients and their well being. Before and after my colon surgery, he talked to my wife and I about the surgery and made sure we had all of our questions answered and that we knew exactly what to expect during and after the surgery. He called me at home to make sure that I was doing well and to give me the results of the biopsy, after my surgery. He is a kind and caring person as well as being a great doctor. I would definitely recommend him to others. David L. in San Tan Valley, AZ - May 17, 2021

If you have pilonidal disease do not go to Dr. Buckmire, he will leave you with a large excision in the middline that cannot possibly heal due to the location of the cut. Month after month, 4 months I went back to him for check ups and advice on what to do to heal and he seemed to be baffled. When he recommended a 2nd surgery performed by a collegue in his office I realized he had no idea what to do. I finally came across information about the Bascom Cleft Lift traveled to Wisconsin for the procedure with a surgeon who has so much experience with this procedure and a plethora of information on pilonidal disease. Do your homework on the Bascom Cleft Lift and travel to get this taken care of once and for all, no one should have to live with an open wound.

I feel very fortunate to have found Dr. Buckmire. He is exactly what you want in a doctor and surgeon – highly skilled, knowledgeable, professional and caring. He serves his patients with empathy – he takes the time to listen and invites questions – and then provides clear and concise information that the lay person can understand. Whether it’s in his office, the ER, pre-op or the hospital room (he’s seemingly everywhere!), his calm, straight forward and caring demeanor puts you at ease knowing he’ll do everything he can to help you. Wish I could clone Dr. Buckmire into some other medical specialties!

My son was referred to Dr. Buckmire with a fairly large mass in his colon. Dr. Buckmire was excellent in communicating the facts and what to expect prior to during and after the surgery. His medical and administrative staff was also very professional which allowed him to spend the maximum time possible focusing on his patients. My son was one of the youngest colon cancer patients. Dr. Buckmire was diligent in making surgical and medical decisions that would impact my son’s life and overall heal
