Dr. Michael Kaplitt, MD

Dr. Kaplitt is an excellent and caring physician. He took time to review the medical records I sent to him. He thoroughly explained what could be done if my symptoms worsened, but that surgery was not indicated at this time. He was clear and very reassuring to me and to my husband.

Dr. Kaplitt gave me my life back. Essential tremor had slowly robbed me of the ability to drink, eat, write, paint, dress, dial a number, anything that required any dexterity. I couldn't go out without causing myself embarrassment by spilling things- absolutely everything in my life was compromised by my shaking- my hands, jaw, voice, head and each breath I took shook uncontrollably. I heard great things about Dr. Kaplitt from one of his patients and met with him to discuss my options. Nothing was sugar-coated, all options up front, I chose to do MRI Focused Ultrasound. It took one session and now half of my body is sure and steady. I'll be back to do the second half in the spring. If you are going to put your brain's health in anyone's hands, Dr. Kaplitt is the guy. I traveled across the country to go to him. Very professional, and extremely proficient. I cannot thank him enough for what he did for me. He's my hero.

Initial consultation with Dr. Kaplitt and NP Kristin Strybing was incredibly informative and both were extremely sympathetic. Practitioners I know who have worked with them have great respect for them.

I have known Dr. Mike since 2004 when he implanted DBS in me. By that time I had exhausted all medical, conventional, alternative treatment modalities available for DYSTONIA. During my first visit he was able to interpret my EMG results and explain it easily considering no other physician had tried. He is brilliant, he listens, he cares, he is up-to-date on technology coming down the pike, he is available, he researches. Office visits are not like sitting in a mahogany walled office of a top neurosurgeon that is stilted and dramatic and 'do as you are told '. He talks through procedures, thru programming sessions with his NP, Kristin. And despite all this he also runs his own research lab, goes to conferences. He is gifted when it comes to performing Deep Brain Stimulation for Dystonia. His knowledge base is vast and his office runs like clockwork.

Just had one visit with Dr Kaplitt, impressive knowledge, communicate well with the patient, easy to understand. In one visit that all I can say.

I was fortunate enough to find Dr. Kaplitt in 2006 when I had my first spinal cord stimulator implanted and wired to my thoracic spine. The implant surgery went well but a problem developed with the leads. Dr. Kaplitt performed a revision (on the leads) and the device has worked well for the last 18 years. The device performed exactly as Dr. Kaplitt intended it would. In 2017 I returned to Dr. Kaplitt for another implantable device, this time, a DRG unit wired to my lumbar spine. Again, there was a lead failure Dr Kaplitt corrected. It too worked well up until Dec 2023. I returned to Dr Kaplitt to solve another chronic pain issue, which should begin roughly Feb 2024.

The procedure is complicated and he took the time to insure I understood.

Unfortunately, the hospital canceled three appointments, as they had changed the doctor's surgery schedule. When we met for my consultation, I was extremely impressed with the questions he asked, the information he dispensed on the procedure we discussed, and his response to my own questions. Now have to decide whether or not to go ahead and schedule the surgical procedure.

Dr Kaplitt took his time, was aware of my history, was a good listener, addressed my concerns and gave me a detailed and thoughtful analysis of my situation. I knew he was knowledgeable and accomplished but he’s also a compassionate healer. A rare combination in l experience.

Great communicator. Explained my options clearly. Answered all of my questions. I have a lot of confidence in him.

He came off very rude and he billed me for having moderate anesthesia and I was not given any anesthesia. I also overheard him speak to the nurse taking care of me when she asked questions in regards to clarification of my care, and he spoke to her in such a condescending and disrespectful manner. Seems like you only get spoken to with respect if you are another doctor or if you are rich.

Given this neurosurgeon’s fame and experience we thought it would be impossible to get an appointment, but happily this was not the case. Everyone at the practice was welcoming and there was practically no wait. Dr. Kaplitt is very personable and provides outstanding explanations, answers questions and never talks down to a patient. His confident manner inspires a patient’s confidence as well. This is very important when one contemplates any surgical procedure and even more so with brain surgery. After the visit there was prompt follow up and setting of subsequent appointments.

We were very impressed with Dr Kaplitt and the staff at Weill Cornell. The Dr was thorough and took his time to answer all of our questions and explain the options. We are very happy to have found him.

Very impressed. Although he was clearly extremely busy I felt like I had his full full and thoughtful attention the whole time. His explanations were very clear and to the point and he inspired complete confidence and trust in his abilities and responsibility.

Excellent experience

I went to see Dr. Kaplitt for my Essential Tremor which has become very hard to manage with medication. His treatment explanations were crystal clear, easy to understand and very kindly delivered. I feel very blessed to have found a Doctor who makes me feel comfortable and makes sure I understand everything that is going on and one who also has his vast experience, rarely does that combination happen. I will be continuing treatment with him.
