Dr. Lospinuso is very knowledgeable and experienced. He answered every question we threw at him. He took time to assure us and patiently explain every step going forward. From our first meeting to our follow-up visit after my husband's surgery this doctor had our complete confidence! It makes a big difference when preparing for an extensive spine surgery, to have full confidence in your doctor's ability and his word. My husband is a new person and doing very well thanks to this amazing doctor and team. Dr Lospinuso put rods in my back 2005, L3 L4. He got me up and walking again. Last year I hurt my back again. This time it was L5. He did surgery again and took out the old rods and put new rods in L3 L4 and L5 . The next day after surgery, I was up and walking with very little pain. In January I had an exacerbation of a herniated disc at L5-S1. Dr. L prescribed conservative treatment (PT) which was somewhat effective, but could not prevent a severe worsening in April, which left me unable to walk and in severe pain and at the ER. I was able to see Dr. L within a matter of days and shortly thereafter underwent an MRI. Dr. L explained that there was no option but to undergo surgery. Dr. L and his staff quickly mobilized and I was in for surgery within 10 days (laminectomy L5-S1, microdiskectomy). The treatment team at JSUMC was top notch and I was pain free within a matter of days. Post-op PT continues and I am optimistic about a full recovery.

I sought out care from Dr. Lospinuso after having months of pain in my neck w. failed epidural injections, pain & nerve meds & an MRI prescribed by a primary physician. My initial consultation with Dr. Lospinuso was very insightful & he suggested I had a severe herniated disc in my cervical spine by looking at most recent MRI. He made every effort to suggest alt. routes before deciding on surgery but also prepared me for the potential outcome. We agreed to get a clearer MRI (because the 1st wasn't great quality) & other tests to confirm what the case was. After all was said & done, the only way for me to get my quality of life back was to do a disc replacement, etc. I had experienced severe nerve pain because part of the disc was broken off & compressing a nerve. He walked me through every step of how the surgery would go & eased every concern I had. From the moment I met Dr. Lospinuso I just had a feeling he had my best interest at heart. Thanks to him I am back to my normal self!!

Dr. Lospinuso, along with his assistant Sandy, changed my life. I was referred to him 7 months post L5-S1 discectomy. At the time I was barely able to walk and was in a great amount of pain. My appointment was January 22. My husband and I left the appointment knowing exactly what to anticipate for surgery and post-op. They answered all our questions and eased our anxiety. I had a MRI and was in surgery on January 30th. Dr. Lospinuso performed a revision and removed the herniated disc along with a small piece of end plate that had broken off. From the moment Dr. Lospinuso came into the examining room to treat me for my burst compression fracture he was extremely reassuring. I have suffered with pain and mobility issues due to severe spinal stenosis for many years. I cannot express how grateful I am for Dr. Lospinuso! While I had two prior spinal surgeries (Laminectomy, Spinal Fusion), with another practice, it was not as successful as expected. Dr. Michael Lospinuso is an outstanding doctor. I went to him for a second opinion for severe spinal stenosis because of his high reputation. Dr Lospinuso took his time to listen and explained my condition and the surgery to me. He drew diagrams to make sure I fully understood. Dr. Lospinuso genuinely cared. Dr. Lospinuso performed the surgery without any problems. I was up on my feet and walking the same day, the pain from my condition was gone. My recovery went extremely well. I have significant cervical disk degeneration. It has become very painful and negatively impacted on the quality of life. I have seen Dr Lospinuso three times. He has over 30 years experience as a physician. He brings a great wealth of knowledge and experience to his patients. He took the time to meet with me, no rushing. He went through my cervical MRI and Cat Scan in detail. He took the time to show me problem areas on the films allowing to understand why I have so much pain. In addition, he used Spine Models in his office to further explain the disease and his proposal for intervention. Dr Lospinuso is highly skilled doctor who brings intelligence and compassion to his patients. Highly recommend him.

Dr Lospinuso is an excellent spine surgeon. He operated on me five years ago when I was having horrible pain for severe spinal stenosis & could hardly walk. That surgery was a complete success. A few months ago I started having a completely different type of back pain which an MRI showed was being caused by several herniated discs one of which was impinging into the nerve root causing excruciating pain down my entire left leg. After trying numerous ways to alleviate this pain with no relief Dr Lospinuso explained exactly what he thought needed to be done surgically. He told me this surgery would be more involved than my first surgery because I would need the disc removed & than a fusion. He assured me that if I chose to do the surgery he felt I would do really well. I had the surgery 4 weeks ago & I'm doing extremely well & able to walk without any pain. Dr Lospinuso is by far the best spine surgeon & I will continue to recommend him 100% to anyone who needs his expertise.

Knowledge and friendliness

Dr. Lospinuso is the absolute best neck surgeon in the area. He is honest, direct, and by far the most skilled surgeon in the area. There is no one close. I would not consider letting anyone else touch my neck. If he can help you, you are in the best hands possible. Spine surgery is scary but when it is needed and you know that you are in the hands of someone with his skillset and vast experience, it somehow becomes less daunting. I can not recommend him enough. I was suffering for many years with back pain, I have had a few epidural injections which helped for a while, I went to physical therapy also which did not help. The pain finally had gotten so bad and was effecting my work performance, i was referred to Dr, Lospinuso and he suggested surgery, He set everything up and I had my surgery(lumbar laminectomy, osteotomy, TLIF, and case fixation) 2 weeks later. Dr.Lospinuso is a miracle worker. Thanks to Dr. Lospinuso, I. got my life back!

Dr. Lospinuso is warm, caring and kind. He is an exceptional surgeon and was highly recommended as being the best spinal surgeon in NJ. He checked in on me post op in the hospital and called to make sure I was doing okay. He made sure I understood the risks, understood what to expect post op and had the ability to ask questions.

In my family we call Dr. Lospinuso a wizard! After being written off by other doctors that I had neuropathy and there was nothing they could do, Dr. Lospinuso was able to formulate a plan to help me because of his experience. Due to his in depth reading of the MRI and report, he saw the severe spinal stenosis and degenerative discs and was able to give me the relief I was looking for! Dr. Lospinuso diagnosed Spinal Stenosis and directed me to rehabilitation therapy, but the pain didn’t subside enough. He then gave me an epidural shot to relieve the pain. It worked for a few weeks. Eventually, after trying this regimen a second time, Dr. Lospinuso scheduled me for surgery. The results were amazing! The day after surgery, I was directed to get up and start walking around the hospital. Absolutely no pain at all! I was even able to climb stairs up and down pain-free. The attendants were amazed at my mobility so soon after surgery. I strongly recommend Dr. Michael Lospinuso. He is not quick to surgery, but directed less invasive procedures first. When all else failed, he installed a “cage” on my lower spine. This resolved my pain problem. I didn’t even use the opioid medicines the hospital gave me for post-operative pain.

I needed to have back fusion to reduce the pain I was in. I’ve had amazing results. I’m walking several miles a day again, playing with my grandchildren and living my best life. I owe Dr. Lospinuso a Hugh debt of gratitude.
