Dr. Michael McAvoy, DO

Saw Dr. McAvoy yesterday for persistent cough, throat clearing and choking at night. He was very patient while listening to my lengthy explanation of symptoms and took notes. after an examination he diagnosed my condition as LPR Reflux and discussed treatment options. He was professional, clear in his explanations and took time to listen. I see some reviewers here refer to 'arrogance' ... I saw none of this. His demeanor was friendly and sincere.

I went to this MD because my nose was constantly running and wet inside. Had already seen an Allergist who tested for allergies, negative for all except one, & I had no animals in my home. He recommended allergy shots & nasal sprays, & became very testy when I did not do these things right away, saying, 'Are you going to use it this time? (the prescription). Iasked what was causing the issue, he refused to answer; but on the prescription wrote 'vasomotor rhinitis'. I told him this issue started after a severe trauma to my nose, & he said nothing about that. Come to find out years after, the medical definition of vasomotor rhinitis states, 'Autonomic nervous system dysfunction is significant in patients with vasomotor rhinitis. Possible factors that trigger this dysfunction including nasal trauma and extraesophageal manifestations of gastroesophageal reflux are discussed.' This doctor bullied me to take meds & allergy shots when I actually require septum surgery.

Dr. McAvoy has treated my two sons and I for years. He is an amazing surgeon. I trusted him to put tubes in my sons ears at a young age and take out my other sons adenoids and tonsils. Which resolved so many issues! He is willing to try medications before jumping to surgery. He has self confidence … which I think any great surgeon/doctor should have. Some of these reviews are based on people not wanting to hear the truth. Arrogance is often mistaken for confidence. You must put in the work and take the meds or do the exercises and listen to the doctor. If you are not, he will not want to hear excuses. I highly recommend Dr. McAvoy.

I've never been his patient, but I have had office visits with him for my kids and also another relative. Dr. McAvoy is abrupt and rather arrogant. My last visit sealed the deal...I'm going someplace else.

Dr. McAvoy immediately made made us feel relaxed. He also was very courteous and straight forward with the explanation of the problem and what can be done to resolve it.

Don't "shop" for a doctor by looking at reviews online. I am several weeks removed from major sinus surgery with Dr. McAvoy, and the only complaint I can lodge is that I didn't go through with this surgery much, much sooner. McAvoy is a skilled surgeon and he has helped restore normalcy to my life. Extremely professional, attentive and results oriented. I can breathe for the first time in years. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing sinus surgery.

I called per a referral from our family doctor to see an ENT. Dr. McAvoy was very condescending. In my opintion, he did not listen well to the situation. He did not look at records or CT Scan from the referring physician... seemed unwilling to. Not very thorough. I would not recommend this facility or Dr. McAvoy.
