A godsend. The one physician in the country that was able to help our daughter. His vast experience over decades and ability to think outside conventional algorithms of care was amazing.

Surgery several years ago
I was 17 with kyphosis. Dr Millis put 2 Harrington rods in my back. He put the rods too high and not low enough. Surgery ended up being 9 hours with 3 blood transfusions. Took months to recover. I am looking for another surgeon to remove hardware from the top, for the 2nd time. I have had nothing but pain since surgery (25 years). Rods are deteriorating and coming apart. Next surgery is because a hook came undone and is pushing out of my back. I can’t lay on my back or sit on a couch. Bone has grown around and it is not going to be an easy surgery. So much happened during my original surgery. My life was ruined.

Dr. Millis is an absolutely amazing human being and doctor. I had to have surgery on both of my hips (a dislocation and debridement) to avoid replacements I was headed for by this time and future cartilage damage. I was having pain daily before the surgeries (12 and 13 years ago now). I couldn’t even get in and out of the car or tie my shoe without pain. My range of movement was awful. The recovery from the surgery was long and the scars ain’t pretty, but it was 110% worth it. I am pain free, have MY hips, and have no restrictions. Dr. Millis takes the time to get to know his patients and he truly cares about them and their happiness. He makes sure he answers each and every one of your questions, and that you understand everything. I can’t say enough great things about him.

Dr. Millis came with the best diagnoses for me, which was bilateral Legg Calve Perthes Disease. He did PAO's and greater trochanter lowering on both hips, and im about 2 years(May 2020) post op since my last surgery i had to have, and my pain is all the way gone, i am limited with activities but i dont have anymore pain which is the only reason you should do a PAO. His sense of humor is just right given that he always has to tell bad news, so its never really "bad news" just new and he makes it fun. If you have severe deformity a doctor will recommended you, as i went through 2 other doctors before I was referred to him to fix my case. GREAT doctor/Human.

I had double peri-acetabular osteotomy with Dr. Millis back in 2003/2004. He is definitely the doctor to go to regarding hip dysplasia. His sense of humor and optimism was key dealing with the excruciating pain I was going through before the surgeries and the first recovery months. My life went back to normal and I was able to dance, run, exercise, travel, sit for hours without pain. Forever thankful to Dr. Millis and Children's Hospital Boston!
