Cochlear Implant
Dr. Shinners installed my cochlear implant a few weeks ago, and I got it activated recently. So far so good! I am fascinated by and addicted to this thing!Dr. Shinners and his staff are professional and know what they’re doing. I do believe he does his best to make sure the patient is willing and determined to put in the effort to retrain their brain to hear before installing the implant.

Dr Shinners performed a tympanoplasy with ossicular chain reconstruction with implant on my left ear. He was confident he can make me hear better with fixing the hole on my eardrum and placing an implant on my hearing bone. 3 years later I desperately need a corrective surgery because my implant extrudes through my eardrum and my hearing has deteriorated. I would love to show his work to the doctor but I never had a chance to do it. After the surgery he went on leave and disappeared from the Chicago area. Now he showed up in SD. Be aware...

Refused to administer the shots an equally qualified ENT specialist, Dr. Steven Cox, had ordered. (Dr, Cox had left and was no longer available.) Appeared totally cold and uncaring. Go to someone else.

Dr. Shinners is a highly qualified and responsive ENT who performed my bilateral cochlear implant surgery after being diagnosed with sudden sensorineural hearing loss in both ears. I literally became deaf overnight. Dr. Shinners team scheduled me immediately to begin a progressive treatment plan. Dr. Shinners performed surgery with little complications. His audiology team helped me to adjust to life with cochlear implants. Dr. Shinners also prescribed auditory-verbal therapy to help improve my hearing recovery. Highly recommend Dr. Shinners and his team.

Terrible experience. Surgery went bad. My ear problem got worse after surgery. I do not recommend him.

Dr. Shinners and staff couldn’t have been any more professional and kind. Dr. Shinners was caring, listened to all my details and made me feel more at ease. I liked his candor, his bedside manner and utmost professionalism. He listens and makes sure he understands what you are explaining. I would refer him to anyone that needs his specialty. Thank you Dr. Shinners and Staff ??

What a horrible experience! Dr. Shinners added no absolutely value to my medical situation; total waste of time and insurance dollars. He quoted statistics from the Internet which I had researched myself. He shone a light in my ears and nose and that was it. His manner was arrogant, obnoxious and dismissive. He concluded the consultation by telling me "I have 20 patients to see today". I would suggest you continue your search for another doctor, this one needs a LOT of work on his bedside manner
