A skilled, knowledgeable doctor.
Dr. Michael Smith has taken care of my broken bones, torned ligaments and bad knees for years. He's kind, understanding and highly skilled in all aspects of Orthopedics. I would never go to any other Orthopaedic doctor. He has treated my sister and daughter successfully and my family won't go to anyone else.

Dr. Smith spent approximately 3 minutes with me on two visits. I left feeling very uninformed about my condition after spending weeks trying to figure it out.

I had a right knee replacement. He explained my options well, including the necessity of dedicated follow up in physical therapy. After five or six months of PT, my new knee is the best functioning part of my body. I think he did a great job.

I have had several surgeries by Dr Michael Smith since 2008. The negative reviews I read here must be about a different Dr Michael Smith than the one I know. The doctor I know is professional, very competent and very caring. He performed surgery on my left knee, and both shoulders. Afterward he cautioned me not to expect my knee and shoulders to be as good as they had been originally.. he was wrong. All three surgeries left me feeling as though I had never had a problem,,I called there today to see if there might be a surgeon on his level in Pasco County. My daughter lives there and needs someone. The person answering the phone couldn’t help me. I was very disappointed. Patricia A. Tierney..St Petersburg Fl

Dr Smith performed a total knee replacement for me. The knee never bent properly. He kept stringing me along about how long it would take to recover and kept extending the time, finally saying that perhaps it would not bend more than 90 degrees. I am sure that he knew what was wrong, as it was very apparent from the Xrays. The top part was too big, did not match the bottom and could NEVER bend right. I had a revision and now I have my mobility back. Dr Smith should avoid surgery.

I saw Dr. Smith for a knee injury I had, and because he ordered x-rays and then a MRI when the knee did not improve (which is the insurance protocol by the way, for those who think the doctors are trying to get you in for additional co-pays) I ended up having a fractured patella. Dr. Smith was kind, efficient, very funny, and did not take up a lot of my time. I have to see doctors on my lunch breaks. So needless to say, I am very pleased w/ my care.

After I made an appointment with Dr. Smith, I read the reviews here. I almost canceled the appointment. Good thing I didn't. I was extremely impressed. He was prompt, convivial, he listened intently as I explained the complicated history of my knee pain, he ordered tests, made a diagnosis, and his treatment gave me speedy relief. He did not promise miracles. I am too old to expect them. Ignore the negative reviews here.

Dr. Michael J. Smith, MD is NOT a good or caring doctor. He lacks compassion and interest in helping the patient understand his/her diagnosis. I accompanied my father to two appointments with Dr. Smith and both of us were appalled by Dr. Smith's behavior. He could not wait to leave the room to see another patient. He never asked if we had any questions. All he wanted to do is to set up my dad with multiple follow-up appointments so he can keep collecting the $65 co-pay per visit. Please avoid.

I had shoulder surgery. Following surgery, Dr. Smith did not let my husband or I know the results. When we asked the nurse, we were told he was doing surgery on the next patient. Orders to the physical therapist were wrong with incorrect diagnosis. Follow up visits post op were a waste of time. There is not space enough to say why I would not trust this doctor.

I've met with several Orthopedic doctors who specialized in shoulders recently and very pleased with my experience with Dr. Smith, even though he was not able to help my with my shoulder problem. he thoroughly examed my shoulder both times and I was satisfied with the amount of time he spent with me.
