I brought aging mother to Emergency Room. He spoke to both of us but more to my mother. He asked her questions then listened. She is hard of hearing so he was patient in her responses. He eased her by reminiscing of towns she was familiar with from back home where she used to live in Illinois. He eased both our minds and when we left, she was smiling and appreciated being treated as she was important( quite often seniors are treated as children or spoke down to by strangers). She clearly understood what the problem was and the “what’s and the “whys” on the treatment of her illness when we left. She stuck to her treatment because she understood.

Bedside manner is terrible and I felt very uncomfortable.
