If I could give 0 stars…
I had 2 surgeries with Dr Kalani, a 3 level C4-7 fusion ACDF in my neck; just 3 weeks later, he did my 1 level L4-5 fusion ALIF in my low back. Both times, I only saw him AFTER the surgery - he only talked from doorway! He never answered my questions & refused to give me add’l pain meds. His nurse & scheduler Venita was rude & hostile - saying that I didn’t need an appt, since the incision was done by the other surgeon. She also said that since I only had ONE level done, I shouldn’t be in that much pain. The next time I begged, she said “he never prescribes pain meds, out of hospital” & I should see my pain mgmt dr. When I said he’s out of the U.S. til Jan 31st, she still refused. I was also assured BEFORE my surgery that I would return to work when I felt up to it - however she reported I should be fine just 5 weeks after! Absurd since I can’t walk now! I am seeking help from another surgeon since it’s obviously a FAILED FUSION - I’m in 10xs more pain than prior to surgery. RUN.

COMMUNICATION
My son (21) was involved in a motorcycle accident about 2 weeks ago. I feel he received adequate care however, I wish there had been communication regarding the events in the emergency room regarding a seizure. The only information we were given was 'do not drive for 6 months'. As a mom, who was at the hospital within 12 hours (we live out of state) I would have appreciated the few minutes to speak with the neurologist regarding the events and ask questions as we are unfamiliar with seizures and how that will affect things. We did not know the things to watch out for, what to do if he had another. He was put on medication, told dont drive for 6 months and follow up in two weeks. When I called to schedule I was told he couldnt be seen until November. I called back today and he is scheduled for Sept and the nurse was amazing and answered questions for 20 minutes. Bottom line I wish in an emergency situation the communication would have been available and given to the family.
