She saved my sight! The absolute best!
Dr. Namrata Nandakumar (Dr. Kumar) is amazing. I began to lose sight a few years ago and went to my trusted family eye Dr in NBPT and that office did not hesitate to refer me to what they called 'the best'. Dr. Kumar was able to see me immediately. The awesome staff (Julie is the best) helped me through the insurance hurdles and made sure I got treatment asap. Even through all the challenges from COVID, the office never once missed an appointment and always had our safety at the forefront. I can't emphasize enough what fantastic hands you will be in with Dr. Kumar and the staff at Retina Specialists of Boston.

Not my cup of tea
I found Dr. Nandakumar to be impatient and arrogant. She may be a brilliant surgeon but she seemed unwilling or unable to clearly answer follow up questions.

She is amazing! About 8 years ago I was stressed and somehow detached my retina. It was about 2 weeks later I went to the eye doctor as I couldn’t see out of my right eye and they referred me to Dr Kumar. I met with her and had to undergo emergency surgery the next day to save my eyesight. She was calming and re-assuring. I was scared to have the surgery but without it I wouldn’t be able to see. She gave me strict instructions after the surgery- I had to stay sitting up for 10 days- only allowed to lay down 15 min of every hour. It was rough but I listened to everything she said and my eyesight slowly came back! Almost 6 years later I see her 2 times a year to make sure everything is ok. Throughout the whole ordeal she and her office were there for any questions. She is a wonderful caring Doctor whom I thank every time I see her for giving my eyesight back!

I have been going to Dr. Nandakumar for several years. She explains my eye conditions clearly. I went to have a specialty surgery in each eye at her recommendation and I am very happy with my surgical outcome. She also recommended what I should do with cataract surgery and I followed her recommendation. I am very happy with my cataract surgery outcome too. I trust Dr. Nandakumar as a doctor and I trust her as a person.

I have been Dr. Nandakumar's patient for many years. I am very nearsighted. Although I knew I had risk of retinal tear/detachment, I never seriously thought it would happen. Then one day, I had classic retinal detachment symptoms. Dr. Nandakumar saw me that day and lasered my retinal tear back. I can not even imagine what would happen to my eye if she did not see me that day. Months later, she caught the other eye also had retinal tear and she fixed it too. I am so thankful to a doctor who took my vision problem to heart to treat me so quickly. Dr. Nandakumar is so skilled that she treated my eyes fully. Dr. Nandakumar saved my vision. I owe my sight to her. My husband and I know that we will be her patients forever. I highly recommend Dr. Nandakumar to anyone with retina problem or at risk of having retina problem.

Sight loss after surgery
Right eye cataract surgery with monofocal lens for distance. Post surgery; distance of 3 to 6 ft clear only. Dr stated astigmatism, which should have been identified pre surgery, the cause. Options: glasses or operate left eye. Didn’t mention that lens used in surgery is listed on web as ‘not for astigmatisms’. Glasses failed as the lenses focus differently. Operate on left when right failed? Advise: find a more thorough and knowledgeable doctor with lots of references. This retina consultant group of Boston is not a good choice for your eyes, in my honest opinion based on my terrible experience.
