Dr. Shikuma and his staff are professional and courteous! He was very thorough in his evaluations. Some tests weren’t covered by my insurance, but we worked out a plan. Would highly recommend him.

The office moved on October 1, 2018. The computer system lost some of the data in the move. We showed up for an appointment and we were apparently not on the books. The doctor left just before we walked in the door and came back in 45 min later. The office staff didn't bother to tell us about this little problem, instead texted the doctor that were here waiting. When he came in, instead of taking us in, he began sorting thru moving boxes. I asked him if we should reschedule. He became annoyed

We saw dr shikuma and took 5 different test. We had to go back to the mainland and tried to take our test results with us we called and they told us we could pick them up after waiting 45 min in the office they told us they didn't have them ready so we told them to mail them to us that was a month ago and all we can get is a answering machine that tells us they will call us back and that never happens. I will never go back to his office ever again. He needs to improve his office staff.

It is difficult for me to imagine a cardiologist who cares more deeply about his patients than does Dr. Shikuma. He exemplifies the consummate professional. A man of near-unparalleled intellect and curiosity, he listens carefully to his patient's concerns and calmly reassures in an honest, positive and soft-spoken manner. He has been there for me for a decade and he WILL be there for you. He will use all his resources to provide you, his patient, the best care available. Friendly staff, too.

Have been seeing Dr. Shikuma for several years. Have always found him to be very professional, thorough, and thoughtful. Sometimes has a quirky sense of humor, but that's probably due to very high intelligence. Even when the diagnosis has not been good, he has been encouraging while being honest. I've seen lots of docs and Dr. Shikuma is one of the best in terms of ability to diagnose accurately, refer to other specialists promptly when needed, and willingness to listen and explain clearly.

My wife and I saw Dr. Shikuma today. As usual, he was courteous, professional, very attentive (took lots of notes on his computer), asked the right questions, noted changes to meds, recent hospitalizations, symptoms, etc. Reviewed all recent records from the last visit, answered our questions clearly and understandably, considered what we said carefully and assured follow-up to certain questions that were related but not quite within his specialty, and scheduled timely follow-up.

Yes, I would recommend Dr. Shikuma to others. He diagnosed my condition accurately and initiated a treatment plan for "IDC". Developed atrial flutter months later and given an anti-arhythmic medication. Still in flutter after a month, then ablation was recommended. Approval seemed to get hung-up until "Brenna" from the Honolulu office took it upon herself and followed through until all appointments and approvals were accomplished. Ablation successful. Brenna was my guardian angel.

Over the past 13 years Dr. Shikuma's sincere concern for quality of life and memory of the details of my heart health have been impressive. During my recent treatment of breast cancer, with surgery and chemotherapy, I knew he and his staff were monitoring and advising any stresses that were placed on my heart. He has always taken the time to thoroughly answer questions and concerns regarding medications, diet, activity, medical procedures and surgeries. I'm healthy and active due to his care.

I DO NOT recommend dr shikuma. He is not patient or caring and if you dare to ask a question, his answers are delivered in a condescending, terse manner. NOT professional at all. Overall, he doesn't seem to care about a patient's condition. The Waimea office staff did a good job at caring for the patients but the turn around of nurses was constant. There was an issue with the phones not being answered in a timely manner for a while and his voice mail was being directed to someone's personal line

Not very professional, gives very insulting answers when he is asked a question. Overall, he doesn't seem to care about a patients condition, does not have the patience to answer questions. If u want a doctor who listens and cares and explains your condition, I do NOT recommend dr shikuma.

I have a condition I may die from if I dont get the necessary medical help I desperately need!! Help! Get your staff together and be professional! ! Because it is a matter of life and death!

Absolutely the worst managed front office I've ever experienced. Always late. Frequently show up for appointments where they aren't ready and have to schedule. Dr. Shikuma may be a great doctor but he needs to spend time managing his staff.

This man saved my life by doing all the proper tests which other cardiologists in Hilo failed to do. Originally had a Heart Attack with one stent, but they left two veins untreated at 60 % blockage via diet and drugs. One month later I could barely breath, but they found nothing.. Went to Shikuma who was wife's cardiologist. He ran many test with angiogram, and found the two veins 90% blocked. He scheduled me to fly to Honolulu and Queens for a double bypass. I would be dead now if not for him.
