Dr. Neil Shmunes, MD

Dr. Neil Shmunes is a most caring and friendly doctor who gave us his personal phone number to me and stated unequivocally no matter what time of day or night to call him if we ever have any problems with the eye. We never had a doctor who would do that. I highly recommend him to anyone who needs an ophthalmologist.

I’ve been seeing Dr Shmunes for many years. He always knows exactly what to do no matter the problem. He has an awesome staff who are caring and professional. They put the patient first, and are there to truly improve patients’ eye health. I’ll never forget when Dr Shmunes saw me in his office on a Sunday because I was having some frightening eye symptoms, and he didn’t want to send me to the ER. Had LASIK done by Dr. Kathryn Shmunes; best investment I’ve ever made for myself! My vision is now better than perfect. I had 0 complications. She and her father Dr. Neil Shmunes had open communication with me throughout the process, always there to answer my questions and concerns even outside of the office. I had LASIC surgery done by Dr. Shmunes decades ago, when it was still fairly new, and haven't gone to an eye doctor since then as my vision has been great. However I started to get floaters so I made an appointment at his new practice. I recalled really liking his work and his demeanor, and both my Mom and my Aunt to become loyal patients of his as they aged. Very glad I made this appointment. His new practive is truly sstate of the art. With scans from 5 different machines he prodced a detailed imaging and anylsis of my eyes, I really felt confident in the thoroughness and depth of the examination. Fortunately I'm still in good shape and the floaters are minor age related phenomena. He'll see me in a year to make sure all's well.My biggest takeaway, other than being happy I have no seeds of macular degenration, glaucoma or cataracts, is his professionalism, thoroughness and his manner. Bonus: Great friendly staff!

Mother had a biopsy on inner lid and was referred to him because of great concern by another highly respected doctor. Dr. Shmunes took great care of her and requested results stat and brought her back in quickly. Thankfully, all was fine, but he treated her with such care and compassion that put us all at ease in a frightening situation. Our family has found a new place to go for our eye care and needs. It is refreshing in this day and age to find a doctor in any modality who practices because it is their calling and they love what they do. A specialist who takes the time to actually talk with and explain in detail what he is doing and looking for is a rarity. I did not feel rushed, and my outlook on health management was both acknowledged and accepted.

Dr. Neil Shmunes carried out my PRK Eye Surgery in April 2024. I’d been considering PRK Eye Surgery for years, but never felt comfortable with other providers I’d consulted with. Dr. Shmunes provided a very warm welcome and I felt right at home from the first consultation. He and his staff were very informative of the process, benefits and possible risks and he left the decision completely up to me on what next steps should be - he didn’t try to push his practice on me as a patient. This approach made me extremely comfortable in my decision to move forward with he and his team at Shmunes Vision and I am extremely happy I did. I am two months post-op and have 20 15 vision with zero dry eye. The PRK Eye Surgery took a total of about 8 minutes and the recovery was a breeze. I recommend Dr. Shmunes and his team to anyone considering LASIK eye surgery or, in my case, PRK eye surgery. He is a class act, extremely knowledgeable and is just a good human. Someone you can trust without a doubt.

if you want a compassionate caring Doctor , who will spend the time needed to discuss your individual condition then you need Dr. Neil Shmunes. I had gone to him for many years, but when I needed cataract surgery, he was not practicing. I went to a well-known doctor, who has many credentials and a good reputation, but doesn’t take the time or interest in the individual. His office was like an assembly line using a different person for every test, brushing off my concerns, trying to push products on me that I didn’t really need. Upon discussing this with several friends, it seems to be more like the Norm these days.Several months later, still having problems, I found Dr. Shmunes had returned to practice with his daughter, also an excellent doctor. The new office has a warm, friendly, welcoming staff, which truly has a patient’s care that primary concern. I highly recommend Dr. Shmunes and his entire office people you can trust to do the very best that can be done for your vision

Dr. Shmunes has not only taken care of my vision but also steered me towards corrective eye surgery that has brought my quality of life back. He has given me renewed hope and health. I had successful cataract surgery with multi-focal lenses about 6 years ago in South Florida. Last year due to some other health issues, I developed persistent styes on my right eyelids and also noted a change in my vision in the right eye. I sought out Dr. Shmunes and after clearing up the styes, eye measurements indicated that they had changed the astigmatism in the eye. He recommended PRK procedure and has restored my vision to near perfect. Dr. Shmunes it very thorough and takes as much time as needed to explain and discuss conditions and options. I started going to Dr. Shmunes about 25 years ago when I wore contact lenses. My vision was very bad, pretty much legally blind. Some Opthmalogist wanted to do lasik on me and Dr. Shmunes advised me not to because it would compromise the health of my eyes and I still would have to wear contacts or glasses. I trusted him therefore waited until I got cataracts, his daughter Dr. Kathryn just did my cataract surgery and I am very happy. I truly trust this family practice and would not go anywhere else.

Dr. Shmunes takes a great deal of time with me to be sure I understand everything about my eye conditions. Glaucoma runs in my family and he is taking every precaution to catch it in me early should I develop it. I also have dry eyes that he has done a great job of treating. At Shumnes Vision Care, you will not be treated as if you are on a factory line. He is extremely knowledgeable and makes himself available 24 hours a day, every day of the week. He has explained that if certain symptoms occur to call him immediately on his cell phone instead of wasting valuable time at an ER where there is probably not anyone trained in opthalomology.

I received multi focal lenses 19 years ago. They corrected my astigmatism and I was able to read anything without correction. My distance vision was lacking. In order to read road signs I had to be right at them. When I began going to Dr. Shmunes he told me he could correct my vision via PRK. I’ve now had both of my eyes corrected and have perfect vision. I can now throw my “cheaters” away! He and his staff show care and concern at every visit.

My experience from the receptionist to the tech & to Dr. Shmunes was amazing. I was educated on the issue with my eye & prescribed treatment. I also received a thorough exam. The doctor took his time with me; I never felt rushed. I highly recommend this practice.
