Charges for Issues Brought Up During Annual Physic
I am disturbed by several things when I visit Dr. Speil. My annual exam now costs me more if I bring up an issue , for instance a foot problem. I am already seeing a surgeon-podiatrist but just because I mentioned it, my insurance and I received additional charges ($600) for a 'consult' ? My annual physical is supposed to be covered 100%. This is just an example of what I mentioned regarding extra charges. I thought my primary physician should know what has happened since I last saw her. She forced me to come in - before my scheduled annual exam -to see her in order for her to refill a prescription. This cost me a lot of $$$. I was asked to take a urine test - for what, I don't know. I don't know if it is an Advocate thing or her. It's costing me too much to see her! My advice is, Don't bring up anything that you have a question or concern about.

Incompetent
Dr. Spiel wasn’t interested in how I got sick and was dazzlingly incompetent. Didnt understand why I was there after I explained myself from the beginning. She actually sighed and said, we don’t have time for this. I then got up to walk out on her and it was only then that she decided to listen. Unbelievable and embarrassing encounter.

Don't
I went for annual wellness checkup, which is fully covered by insurance, and ended up being charged for office visit. Also, you have to fight to have tests done even though you qualify because of age. I am leaving this practice and Advocate for good.

Saw her for a wellness checkup which has no fee (per my insurance). However, Dr Speil charged me for the visit because existing and new issues were discussed. Seriously?!?! I told her I'd done research and thought I had plantar fasciitis per some reading I'd done. All she did was confirm MY diagnosis and told me to research exercises. That discussions prompts a fee? UNREAL!! What should you discuss at a yearly checkup? Additionally, she rushes patients through like cattle. Not personable, doesn't seem knowledgeable to me. Truly awful experience with this doctor and I am never returning to anyone in this practice because of Dr Speil’s lack of care from my perspective. She is horrible!!

I saw Dr. Speil on July 3, 2019 - I was experiencing weakness, trembling hands, and sudden weight loss (five pounds in a week). There is an extensive history of thyroid disorders in my family, so I was pretty familiar with these symptoms. Because I had labs drawn through a work health fair in April, she refused to run any new labs, saying my numbers were fine, and that 125 pounds was "a good weight for you." That was kind of besides the point. I lost seven more pounds over the next two weeks, and saw another doctor to find out that, as expected, my thyroid numbers were plunging. She seemed nice enough in general, but this was a ridiculous position to take given my symptoms and family history, especially for a doctor who supposedly has an interest in thyroid disorders.

Chalks everything up to "anxiety". Sorry but I know what anxiety is, and if it were up to me I would never go to a doctor, so for me to go to a doc I feel pretty crappy. There's nothing much worse than going to a doc for help and being told you are being "anxious" and the doctor having an attitude like I am wasting her time. What happened to doctors being there to listen to your problems, examine your symptoms, and actually offer help? Avoid this doctor.

Dr Speil took time to listen to my concerns and discuss them with me. She explained my condition clearly, and outlined my options for treatment. In all, I felt that she was paying close attention, had an excellent grasp of my situation, and cared about what I was saying to her. She isintelligent, well educated, and up on the particulars of her field. It was a heartening experience and I'm so glad I chose her. Would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone.
