AVM Resection - Cured
On May 15th 2023 I had a grade 3 AVM removed from my left temporal lobe without embolization. Dr. Patel did a wonderful job! I'm 41 and found out about my AVM at age 22. It took a little over a year (post surgery) for my mind to fully accept that I no longer have an AVM. Its truly nothing short of a blessing. I am doing very well and I am able to live life fully. I'm back at the gym and doing all the physical things I've always enjoyed doing. Thank you Dr. Patel for all your hard work that got you to this point where you are able to cure people of their AVMs. You've also freed us from the daily psychological turmoil involved with knowing that our AVMs can rupture at any time. I can't recommend Patel enough. Truly, I'm forever grateful for your help. Thank you! - Mike M.

Thank you for everything!
Dr. Patel and his team removed an AVM from my sister on April 1st 2024. She is 61 years old and is doing very well 2 months out. She was diagnosed with an AVM at 13 years old. In her later years she was experiencing increased debilitating symptoms. She would never let anyone remove the AVM until she met Dr. Patel. There are not enough words to express our thanks for Dr. Patel’s time, care, concern and patience. He is a remarkable surgeon and person for all he does. So grateful and thankful.

Life-changing help for those with Moyamoya Disease
When my wife suffered a stroke and diagnosis of Moyamoya Disease in 2022, we were left with many questions about what to do. Researching the rare disease, which blocked both my wife's carotid arteries, was helpful to a point -- but still left questions. From the moment we reached out to Dr. Patel and his team (from out of state) to see if he could help, he put us and our entire family at ease with his knowledge of what needed to be done and his experience in successfully performing a high number of STA-MCA direct bypass surgeries. His confidence, kindness, and experience are precisely what we needed when facing this disease and such an important decision. The result: Both left and right brain direct bypass surgeries have been successful and life-changing for us. We are grateful for our time at the Brigham with Dr. Patel's team -- Han Na Park, Kendall Mehinagic plus Monica Cheng, the talented anesthesiology team, and too many caring nurses to name (Kareema, Grace, Julia -- thank you!).

Lifesaving talented surgeon and kind
Dr Patel is as kind as he is skilled. His bedside manner is outstanding he really cares and empathizes with his patients. My mri showed an urgent need to perform a craniotomy and resection on me asap and I saw him on a Thursday and he operated on me that Saturday less than 36 hours later. On a Saturday! He has allowed me to have more time with my family and fight my GBM diagnosis. His team including Hanna/Kendall/and Alex are the best of the best and so attentive. God shines on this man and team and let the light shine for you in his direction. He’s an angel for all of us. Thank you Dr. Patel. Plus he’s a great guy and funny and very cool. Someone id want to hang with (like go surfing with him or play pickle ball with him).

From a happy glioma surgery patient's family
I think it would be most fitting for me, the patient's wife, on behalf of our entire family, to express our boundless gratitude to Doctor Patel and his team for conducting a flawless brain surgery on my husband. After a month of tense anticipation, as my husband struggled to get back to reality after a severe seizure and a cancer diagnosis, we experienced an unforgettable moment of joy when, immediately after the surgery, we saw the sparkle in my husband's eyes and his happy smile come back. The amazing work of Doctor Patel and his team exceeded our every expectation.

Brain Aneurism Patient
I was fortunate to have a brain aneurism detected while undergoing a CAT scan for another issue. My pursuit of a remedy led me to Dr. Patel, among others. I chose Dr. Patel over other “big city” options for his clear communication and responsiveness, and for his no pressure demeanor which helped to relieve my anxiety. Dr. Patel and his team neutralized my brain aneurism, and likely saved my life. I strongly recommend Dr. Patel and his team at the Brigham.

He's the best!
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Patel and his team. They were a godsend during a very scary and trying time when my son suffered a severe head trauma with a brain bleed. It was our good fortune Dr. Patel was on duty in the trauma unit that night. He explained things so we could understand them and was very compassionate. I felt he genuinely cared about our family. Our follow up visits went just as well. It was comforting knowing my son was in his care. When the chips are down - this is definitely the guy you want on your side! Besides being an amazing doctor, he's a really nice guy too.

Excellent Surgeon and terrific care at BWH
When told that my husband needed surgery in his brain to remove a lesion, we were scared. At first we didn't want to do it, but then it became obvious that without the surgery the outcome would be terrible. Dr. Patel did an excellent job of removing the lesion and all visible signs of the cancer. The incision was done with such care, that unless you know to look for it, you can't see it at all. My husband has healed exceptionally well and I credit Dr. Patel's skill as a surgeon and having an excellent medical team at Brigham and Women's Hospital for his care. When we met with Dr. Patel after the surgery for the follow up visit, it was very clear that his team truly respects him. When you think of this, it is crucial that all members of the team work well together. Best possible outcome thanks to Dr. Patel.

Saved My Life With Cranial Bypass Surgery
Dr. Patel saved my life. On Memorial Day 2021 I had my first stroke. Following that stroke, I consulted with several Doctors, and was told my chance for additional strokes was extremely high and I had a blockage in my brain that was inoperable. In May 2022 I had my second stroke and three additional strokes followed in rapid succession. I consulted numerous doctors, but all felt the only treatment possible was medication. In July of 2022 a friend referred me to Dr. Patel. At my first appointment with Dr. Patel he told me he could do a by-pass surgery. Currently, I am one month post by-pass surgery. I feel better than I have felt in a long time and the pre-surgery aphasia has almost completely gone away. Dr. Patel is an amazing surgeon who corrected a vascular problem which would have taken my life prematurely. I could not be more grateful. My advice to anyone would be to look at all options and don’t give up. In my case Dr Patel had the answer.

Treatment for a brain aneurysm.
Dr. Patel and his team treated me for a brain aneurysm. I just received the news from Dr. Patel that the aneurysm is completely gone and it is just like I never had a problem. Dr. Patel is the most caring, kind and professional doctor I have ever had the pleasure to meet. He puts you totally at ease and explains everything to you in "layman's" terms while respecting your intelligence and understanding your concerns. His entire team exhibits the same professionalism and care as Dr. Patel. All the people I encountered at Brigham and Women's Hospital were wonderful. If you ever are in need of a neurosurgeon, I cannot recommend Dr. Patel, his team and Brigham and Women's Hospital highly enough.
