Dr. Nita Sumida, MD

I absolutely agree with most of the reviews written by many of Dr. Sumida’s patients. She has what is referred to as a wonderful bedside manner which is very important to me. I feel completely at ease with her. She is not only an excellent doctor but also listens to her patients. I have been seeing her for three years and I could not have made a better choice in physicians.

I have been going to Dr Sumida for over 10 years. She is very thorough, knowledgeable and goes above and beyond to diagnose and treat my RA. She is very pleasant and takes the time to explain things, and investigates best options for treatment. I highly recommend her and her team.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Sumita since January 2024. I feel that I get top quality care from her. She’s a great listener; provides clear, helpful guidance; takes the time needed to address issues and discuss my treatment plan. She’s wonderful! The staff in her office are also wonderful, professional, and efficient.

I've been with Dr. Sumida now for almost 2 years and she continues to be absolutely outstanding. She quickly diagnosed my RA symptoms and prescribed the right medication - most of the discomfort has disappeared and not come back. She listens well and explains things thoroughly. I could not have had a better first visit with Doctor Sumida. She viewed my images in preparation for my visit, looked at my medical history and gave me a full physical exam. She listened to my concerns and asked probing questions before discussing next steps with me. The office staff is always friendly, professional and polite. My appointment began on time and I left with a plan for moving forward. I am 100% satisfied with the result of my visit.

I feel fortunate to have been able to get an initial appointment at Ortho Virginia with Dr. Nita Sumida. When calling for an appointment the person I spoke to was very helpful and polite. The pre-appointment medical history form and patient portal questions were appropriate and thorough, so that with the history, labs and images faxed over by my primary physician, Dr. Sumida had already diagnosed my medical problem before I arrived! Her interview questions confirmed her diagnosis. She appeared to be very knowledgeable and provided verbal education and helpful patient fact sheets about my new diagnosis and medication. A clear follow up plan was communicated. Both the appointment check in and check out process was very fast and efficient. Extremely satisfied!

My first visit to her practice, Dr. Sumida and staff were welcoming and she is attentive, accommodating and thorough.

I was referred to Dr. Sumida by the orthopedist who did surgery on my hands. Not exactly happy to have to see another doc, much less a rheumatologist (made me feel OLD). But Dr. Sumida very quickly dispelled any concerns just by being present. She asks questions and listens to the response before a follow up question. She is highly regarded by her peers, and by this patient.

Excellent Dr. Sumida takes the time to answer all of my questions. She is empathetic and does not make me feel rushed. I appreciate her very much and would recommend Dr Sumida to all my friends.

Dr. Sumida spends time with you, explaining what's happening and going over medications, procedures and test results. She was VERY patient with me when I was learning to give myself injections for my RA. I never felt rushed, and she didn't try to push me. That first time takes some working into, and she let me take all the time I needed.
