When I was in my mid thirties (about 16yrs ago) I came from Elizabeth City, NC to see Dr. Boardman due to an injury involving my sternoclavicular joint. For eight years prior I had enured a mind numbing amount of pain that no doctor in the Tidewater area could pinpoint. Dr. Boardman deduced the problem immediately and gave me two options; I chose the least invasive. He answered all my questions in his office, spoke to me at length right before the surgery, allowed me to ask him some very personal questions(how are YOU feeling today, doctor?; did you sleep well, have you eaten ...seriously), came to see me after the surgery, explained what he did, what I can expect with regard to pain, & recovery. He also personally took several of my calls after I returned home to NENC and was very generous with his time & attention in my follow up visits.

One of the best doctors I've ever met. He is very professional but also friendly. He's not afraid to just chat with you for a bit. You feel like he has a genuine interest in you and not just as a patient. From the 1st visit Dr. Boardman knew what was wrong & how to fix it. He not only did an excellent job fixing my shoulder (after another surgeon did a crap job on it), but he explained in detail what to expect at every stage of my recovery and answered all my questions. I've seen several orthopedic surgeons and he's the first one to give a time-frame and explain when I could expect to be able to physically accomplish certain arm movements without pain and what physical therapy steps to take to gradually get there comfortably. Most surgeons don't give you those details. I wish I could go to him for all my healthcare needs. Excellent human being and doctor. If you've been ping-ponged from dr to dr for shoulder problems, see Boardman. He will be your last shoulder dr.

Finally....a physician that actually listened to my concerns versus sweeping them under the rug like my last Doc. Great to actually have a conversation versus being spoken to.

He was very quick with evaluating me and suggested nothing I might do to improve my motion involving my shoulder. I would like to know if any type of therapy would help?

I had reverse shoulder replacement surgery 3 weeks ago. ZERO pain, excellent follow up. Dr. Boardman answered all my questions, gave me options, and did exactly what he said he would do. I would recommend him and his staff to anyone needing orthopedic care. HE’S MY HERO!!

Very inconsiderate, I went in for an optional surgery he said would help confidently I might add. Instead I have chronic pain thats more intense then what I had before. His after care plan consisted of a little uninvolved physical therapy and a follow up which he did not attend. I have been to many other surgeons for other surgeries who were very involved leaving me to beleive surgeons are always expirienced, hard working, and caring. Instead i learned the opposite. Very displeased

This surgeon is arrogant, cruel to his patients! He literally yells and screams at them, dismissing their concerns and fears! After surgery, the patient is hospitalized, in severe pain, and this surgeon never once goes in to see his patient! Do not go to him!
