Past Patient Highly Recommends!!
AWESOME!!! 7.5 years ago I had my hip replacement and I am normal now for years! I was in daily pain, had to stop while going on walks, felt loose cartilage in my hip joint! It made pain radiate down my leg, my back was sore so I would get steroid shots...all before I turned 60! I was driving after 3-4 weeks. I did my PT at home and used my walker a few weeks. I would 'highly' recommend Dr. Akhtar. Now I wish he was nearby to check out my other hip now. He is a blessing! Yes, I would call him 'no doubts about it'! I was so lucky to have Dr. Akhtar replace my hip after the many horror stories I have heard since!

Dr. Akhtar is the best orthopedic surgeon in Cedar Rapids and region! He is very, very personable and genuinely cares about his patients before, during and after surgery. He is truly the epitome of how doctors should relate to their patients. He serves more than 5 stars!

Poor Support Staff
Dr. is a 5 star, he was very understanding and explained what was wrong but unfortunately his support staff is non-responsive thus a 1 star rating . We were suppose to hear from his scheduler to schedule surgery and 2 months later haven’t heard from her. We have left messages and no return calls. Was suppose to hear from someone for possibly seeing a new doctor who was suppose to start end of August/1st of September and it is now August 25 and no call/appointment. We have called and we are told we are on the list to schedule.

My knees work like brand new. No pain. Had both knees done. Second one, I went home same day. Felt great. Dr. AKHTAR, MD is the best. I recommend him to anyone and everyone.

Disappointed. His assistant kept on coming to me asking me to ensure if I really needed to see him and not someone else, insisting on making me see his colleague when I specifically required him on recommendations. When I kept on saying that I took an appointment with him and would only see him hoping he was professional and knowledgeable, he finally came long after, only to ask me if I knew him!! Seriously?! Do patients have to know him to be able to see him? Finally starting the appointment after all that circus, another circus started, a long intro was about his "caliber", how qualified he was, making some assumptions about my life and nonsense talk. Finally, comes the diagnosis, I didn't gain any advice from the session except to work out due to my "old" age and weight. I agree we all have to work out and be healthy but that was not why I came to him for!!! I could have gotten that advice from my sibling. I had to go see another Dr to get a proper diagnosis. Shame.

Dr Akhtar did my TKR in March of 2019. I had never had any major surgery, never stayed in a hospital and was scared to go through this. I put it off as long as I could and could no longer put up with the pain. Surgery scheduled and done. Amazing experience from beginning to follow-ups and where I am today. He explained everything in detail and I wasn't rushed at any time. Phone calls from him before and after surgery. Physical Therapy was a struggle for that first 6 weeks but necessary. After the stint in PT, I was pretty much back to normal walking. And without pain! He is an incredible surgeon and a terrific doctor, providing kind, professional treatment of his patients. He is the diamond in the field of surgeons.

Dr. Akhtar did a TNR (Total Knee Replacement) on me and now I am seeing an Orthopedist for revision surgery. I do not recommend him. On my last (12 mo.) follow-up visit with him and told him that my knee pain never went away, he told me "the way your knee is now, that's the way it will be".

Dr. Akhtar replaced both or my knees. His work was excellent & he is the most attentive, considerate doctor I have ever been to. He personally called to check on me instead of someone in his office. He explained everything that he would be doing to my knees before surgery & let me know what I could expect afterwards.

When a great Orthopedic surgeon refers your mother to Dr Akhtar as a hip replacement specialist, volumes have just been spoken. The referring surgeon said that Dr Akhtar is the best. My mother is 85 and has weak bones. She had her other hip replaced about a year ago. This was prior to her moving close to me. The first replacement has not been a complete success. Dr Akhtar indicated that due to the difficulty with her first surgery, that he would take extra precaution in replacing the other hip. He prefers using laser placement due to its accuracy. But In my moms case he would do it by hand so that he could feel his way into placement accuracy. I was so impressed by his care and concern. My mom is doing great and Dr Akhtar is THE BEST!!! He has a beautiful demeanor, a bright personality, and a very sincere and genuine concern for his patients. My mother told him “he is the best Dr ever.” But in his unexpected humility, he claimed he was “only human.” If he is only human, he is SUPER hum

Dr. Akhtar performed total hip replacement 16 days ago. He is a wonderful surgeon. I am already walking without a walker or cane and virtually in no pain. He listens to what I have to say and answers any questions I have. He is also going to do a total knee replacement in a couple of months. I would highly recommend him to family and friends.

I saw Dr. Akhtar for a second opinion on the need for hip surgery. Dr. Akhtar spent time to thoroughly review the results of the xray and MRI (which the first doctor did not do), explained what was causing my discomfort and a plan which did not require surgery! I was so impressed with his care and his way of communicating what was going on. I highly recommend him!!

Excellent doctor! Absolutely amazing in every aspect and just what you would want and expect when picking a surgeon for total hip replacement. 6 wks pre op and everything is great and I'm back to work all ready. Dr Akhtar is just a all around good doctor from first visit till last we have just loved the whole experience. I really liked when he stuck his head in on first visit to tell us he's running a few minutes behind and apologized and also calling night before surgery to see if I had ????

I had a total hip arthroplasty (posterior technique) and cannot say enough good things about Dr. Akhtar, from his wonderful bedside manner, timeliness of meeting his schedule, skillful surgical technique and his post operative bedside manner--all were perfect in my view. My recovery is weeks ahead of schedule. I was up and walking well within three days and not even using a cane or walker at all within a week. I had no significant pain after the first week and was off pain meds after 10 days.
