Very thorough
Dr Charilaou had tests done that had never been done that identified my problem. He seems concerned about my quality of life.

highly recommend, took the time, very knowledgable
I have Crohn's disease for 20 years. I was seen by at least 5 different doctors in 3 different healthcare systems. I moved to Charlotte recently and had to establish care with an IBD specialist. Of note, his group at Atrium Health (Morehead Medical Plaza) are the only 3 IBD specialists in the greater Charlotte area. He was the only doctor who took the time to reconcile all my medical records ahead of my visit and knew exactly what was going on, only for me to confirm a few dates here and there. We went over all the remaining FDA-approved treatment options, and given my complex history, he gave me more options than what it is out there, including clinical trial opportunities. In a 40 minute appointment he definitely took an additional 20 minutes to answer all my questions and I left satisfied with a new treatment plan. For the first time I feel control of my Crohn's and not the other way around. I highly recommend him to anyone with severe or complex Crohn's or ulcerative colitis.

Very thorough and truly cares about his patients.
I thought I was having an IBD flare up and he ran tests and figured out I had an infection and checked the results on the weekend and sent in a prescription for me and messaged me on the portal on a Saturday

If you have IBD and you want someone to just give you a pill he’s your guy If you are invested in your own health and don’t blindly follow everything a doctor says look elsewhere. Dr Charilaou took over for my gastro who retired so I figured I’d give him a chance before looking for my own replacement. With in minutes of stepping in the room he was pushing me to go on a biologic and telling me to just plan on maxing out my insurance deductible every year. He did all this without seeing a new colonoscopy and with no new blood work. He also acted like I was inconveniencing him when I asked him to slow down and spell the names of the new medication so I could do my own research

Dr. Charilaou has guided me through medication selection, even though I was reluctant at first to proceed with biologics. We formulated a plan together and answered all my questions fully and spent more time than I expected at my initial appointment. He provided me with all the data to make the best decision for my Crohn’s. Highly recommended.

Great doctor, highly recommended
He took the time to explain everything to me, and gave me treatment options about my illness and we formulated a treatment plan together. IBD is a complex disease and you need someone who knows what he is doing. I would highly recommend to anyone with complex IBD.
