Simply a brilliant clinician who listens, explains, supports second opinions, and deeply cares. She has guided me for almost 20 years from the initial shock of diagnosis, through several treatments for a difficult to cure cancer, and through a stem cell transplant. While I also get care from with researchers at Stanford, Paula is the doctor I trust to bring it all together and take care of me.

POOR, VERY POOR bedside manner. Has an opinion of herself that she knows it all. This comes from lack of listening skills and simple desire to hear it out fully. Loves to interrupt, since I know it all attitude is supersized daily. On the positive side: happy to read results out loud instead of discussing options or additional information to consider. Side effects should not be considered, as if, why do you need to know? provide a referral and an extra dose of drugs over the phone.

A hands on doctor who knows how to listen and makes a real effort to understand my attitudes, concerns and issues as well as the disease. She is warm and supportive and takes the time needed to deal with an issue. Very responsive to email queries. Up-to-date, but not in a rush to use new technology or drugs just because they are new. Perhaps a bit too quick to see the positive in imaging and test results when there might be a darker side. A rare find: a great clinician and fine person.
