Wonderful physician and staff!
My wife had her consultation with Dr. Ewege 0n April 25 and her colonoscopy on May 2. There was a fairly long wait for the consultation appointment, completely understandable due to what a great medical practice it is! It is more than worth the wait to be cared for there. Dr. Ewege listened carefully and prescribed a treatment plan which has become very effective inbringing relief from symptoms ongoing for decades which had become progressively worse including recent diverticulitis flare ups. The May 2 procedure went very well. All staff members and the anesthetist were very caring, reassuring, and proficient. Regarding the billing and insurance staff members, they were true to their word in issuing a refund after insurance payments had been made. A patient should have no anxiety about making copayments in advance of insurance payments. We strongly recommend East Carolina Gastroenterology with no reservations whatsoever!

Patient Dr respect: No
As a nurse and 49yrs surviving Crohns, I was disappointed that this Dr had no knowledge of Crohns untreated properly, inflammation runs wild. He kept refusing change of meds needed as my biogic wasn't effective now. 1.5 yrs of begging to change it, a colonoscopy was his repeated reply, I knew I needed it but sepsis shock set in and ER plus hospital stays 2x interrupted that.If meds had been changed most likely sepsis could have been avoided. My severity of Crohns, 49 yrs was ignored, my reports ignored and bad judgement was evident. A nurse, patient of Crohns this long should be respected and listened to. Changing meds regardless of a test, was a priority, being aware that sepsis is common with Crohns and rampant inflammation, but I suffered 2 bouts of sepsis and sepsis shock, which endangered my life, and was advised by surgeon to find a diff Dr, and I did, in Wilmington. The rave reviews are likely due to less severe disease involvement and patient not a health professional.

Excellent Care!
I have been a patient for many years and have always received amazing patient care and service. I have had 3 upper endoscopies and 3 colonoscopies. I have never had anything short of a positive experience at all of my routine visits and procedures. I especially like that everything, including the procedures are offered in house. I don’t have to go to an out patient surgery center. It’s very convenient!

I went to Dr. Eweje for an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. I was informed about the procedures and what to expect afterward. The procedures were done 2 weeks apart. I was well taken care of by the staff. After both procedures, Dr. Eweje explained what he found in layman's terms. I slept through both procedures and when they woke me I felt fine. No after-effects. I will continue seeing Dr. Eweje

3/19/2021 my third and last EGD with this practice. During this covid crisis I feel being cooped up in a cubicle for close to 3 hours is not safe for a patient at a higher risk. Degenerative disc disease and bulging disc in my neck sitting on that hard gurney put me in severe pain and not one nurse came to check in me, ask if i had to use the restroom or tell me sorry there is a delay, they only put in an IV. I had to call someone into the holding area to find out how much longer the wait is, the lady who rode with me to drive me back home was pressed for time. I usually get just hurricane spray but they said due to covid they stopped using it, seems a disposable straw applicator and sanitize the can is more covid compliant than the 3 hour wait. I had a bad reaction to the Propofol, light headed and vertigo from sitting up to a lying down position, my neck was extremely stiff and sore 4 days after the procedure which was not experienced with the prior 2. Rude staff! Won't be back
