A thorough dr with a gentle, calm demeanor
I had no idea what was going on with my vision but I’d heard 3 different opinions from 3 different doctors who weren’t retinal specialists. Suffice it to say that I was quite concerned by the time I walked into this appointment. Dr. Hovland and the entire staff put me at ease and I left feeling confident and educated, which after 2 long visits to the ER in as many days was a huge relief.

Should not be in practice
I'm a 74 year old male with 62 years of Type 1 diabetes and most of the medical complications that come with that disease. After moving to Colorado, I saw Hovland 4 times within a 3 year period. Twice he was given the wrong records and had no clue who I was. He proceeded to tell me everything that I didn't have until I stopped him. My last visit he kept me waiting in the exam room for over 2 hours, then appeared to have no time to see me and refused to even examine my eyes. He told me in front of his assistant Lexi, that they were not dilated- wrong! He then refused to offer any assistance or treatment and promptly left the room. I've been treated by numerous Retina specialists over the past 35 years and my experience with Hovland is by far the worst I've ever had by any doctor.

Spectactular Eye Surgeon
Dr Hovland is a superb specialist that clearly cares and communicates well. Going the extra mile, during the surgery he discovered a previously undetected vein issue that could have caused retinal detachment and he corrected it. The surgery was a complete success AND he did extradonary risk prevention to ensure retinal protection. A kind heart and an experienced hand has improved my vision and my life!

Excellent care
Dr. Hovland has used his skill and experience to restore my vision to 20-20. He is honest, compassionate and caring. He takes the time to explain my eye condition and my options. I require on-going eye injections and compared to other providers I have had, his technique is the best. The injection itself is painless. Afterwards, there is often no soreness or eye redness at all which amazes me. His support team from front desk, clinical care to check out are always helpful, kind and professional. I highly recommend Dr. Hovland.
