Excellent surgeon but horrible bed side manner. Told a family member of mine who was just diagnosed with cancer to start picking out his plot and that he had a 20% chance of living. Those two statements made a complete 360 in my family members mind set. Totally inappropriate for a surgeon to say that and not an oncologist. Horrible.

Dr. Scalia is a great surgeon. He's excellent at explaining what he's going to do and has excellent hospital follow up. We saw him at the hospital every day after my husband's lung cancer surgery, sometimes more than once. We never felt rushed and he answered all of our questions, both at the office and the hospital, showing patience and understanding about our fears and uncertainties. His office staff is wonderful and supportive, making us feel very confident that we made the right choice. My husband recently needed another cancer surgery and we were disappointed that he couldn't operate because it was not his specialty, but he did refer us to another excellent surgeon.
