Dr. Van Steyn in a word is an outstanding doctor.
In my almost 50 years of using Army medical treatment Dr Van Steyn is the best doctor that I had the privilege of treating me. He was extremely patient with all my concerns regarding my surgical procedure. He went above and beyond explaining what to expect. Which is not always the case. His bedside manner is excellent and what other doctors should aspire to. I would not hesitate for Dr. Van Steyn to operate on me if needed. Simply put ' I trust my life to this man'.

One of the most competent doctors I have ever met with his bedside. Maynor was friendly and warm and he took time to really listen to the patient.

Dr. Van Steyn was amazing! He was very knowledgeable and broke everything down for me. He seemed so interested in helping me. I was a little nervous as I never had surgery before and was afraid of still living with the constant pain in my shoulder, but as soon as I was out and the recovery process was started the difference was night and day. He fully fixed my completely torn labrum and now I’m back to living an active lifestyle pain free. I would go back to him in a heartbeat if I needed it.

Would Highly Recommend
At first glance my imagery came back inconclusive. Dr. Van Steyn took time to explain every aspect of what could be causing the pain issue based on the MRI received and without giving me false hope. He even shared details of his own happenings to further relate a common understanding. After the surgery; my recovery was very fast, in comparison to the first. This could be from a number of reasons, but I don't doubt that the speedy recovery should through praise towards the doctor's handling of the procedure. I now feel little to no pain (currently week three of recovery) and am very grateful of the doctor's work and bedside manner.

Great results with hip replacement
I was very apprehensive about getting another hip replacement, but my pain was getting worse. Years ago, I had the other hip replaced and faced months of agonizing pain during the recovery process. Dr. Van Steyn told me about a new procedure that could possibly give me a better outcome. I was a bit skeptical, so I took several weeks to review the new process and review other orthopedic docs in the area. I came back to Dr. Van Stein because he had a good conversational approach to explaining what I could expect and instilled confidence in his ability to give me back my mobility. The results of the procedure were surprising. I was up and walking the same day with little to no pain. Four days after the operation, I felt stable enough to give up my cane. I'm now two weeks out and barely feel like I had gone through a life changing operation. Dr. Van Stein and his staff can't be thanked enough. I'm well on my way to resuming my life as I previously remember - no pain and no restrictions.

An Expert and a Professional
I’ve had multiple appointments with Dr. Van Steyn revolving my FAI hip issue. The first appointment he immediately identified what was haooening with me, and told me that my issue wasn’t going away without surgical intervention. After a successful surgery, he put me to work at home and in the physical therapy gym. I’ve never had a doctor in the military so invested and dedicated to their craft when it comes to hip injuries. Today I am walking and running with very little issues and it’s only been six months since surgery. He is an expert and a professional that the Army needs more of. I highly recommend anyone in the area to see him for hip related injuries.

Made recovery worthwhile and realistic.
Every visit Dr Van Steyn was honest about my recovery and knowledgeable about the process through his own experience rehabbing a similar injury, this gave me a sense of trust and that he’d be able to give realistic expectations on my rehabilitation. In all my visits my questions were answered and discussed in layman’s terms as to make sure the process wasn’t a mystery. In the event I had to reschedule Dr Van Steyn was able to pencil me in quickly and was very accommodating to my requests. I know that without his assistance my injury and recovery process would have been dreadful and painful.

Extremely professional and great bedside manners.
Dr. Van Steyn Jr performed my knee surgery and was great at explaining what he was going to do and the reasoning behind it during pre op appointments. Post op he was encouraging and able to effectively communicate and give me a timeline for what I can and can’t do in order to have an optimal recovery process.

Dr. Van Steyn was absolutely amazing! I was upset about having a second ACL surgery, but he was very reassuring and helpful. He had a plan of action that fit my health and body to ensure my recovery process was as painless as possible. Through my process of healing, he was very encouraging of my physical therapy and doing what I was allowed at home or in the gym. My knee feels better than it has in years. I would highly recommend him to anyone who needed it.
