Dr. Portia Cohens, MD

She is the one doctor in this practice I refuse to see I have been coming here for years and have never had any issues with any of the providers I've seen until I saw Dr Cohens. It takes a lot for me to be upset with a medical provider, but this woman treated me with a bias. I am used to not being listened to as a woman of color, but being blatantly ignored and then when I turned out to be correct about being pregnant essentially fat shamed by her is absolutely ridiculous. She did not make sufficient notes on what I had told her in our initial exam so I was sent for hospital visit when we could have just monitored for an ectopic pregnancy with frequent appointments(which is what is currently happening). I recommend ANY of the other providers other than her. My care under this practice has been phenomenal up until now, but I would sooner have a doctor I've never met deliver my next child than her..

I was under Dr. Cohens care with both my children. I was considered High Risk pregnancy and she did everything possible to make sure I understood my care plan and calm my nerves.

It's saddens me to even have to leave this review. I have never in my life seen a doctor be so rude and disrespectful to a patient. Not just any patient a pregnant scared hurt and upset 29-year-old black woman. She was rude and nasty with her from the minute she walked in the door. She never said hello or bothered to introduce the student teacher never asked the patient if it was okay for a student to come in the room. The patient was trying to explain to the doctor about her mental issues and she says to her ' You said you have been in therapy before you don't got no therapist!' Just like that as if she was wrong for her mental issues that she's experiencing right now during her pregnancy. Then she went on to try to explain to the doctor how her job would not work with her to use the bathroom as Portia cuts her off and proceeds to tell her and I quote' Well it seems to me like you need to look for a new job!' Not ok!!

Maybe I came on an off day but her bedside manner was subpar at best. I came for my first maternity visit and I had seen someone else in the practice but was referred to her. She breezed in, introduced herself and proceeded to treat me like I was #324 of the day. It was completely rushed. She didn’t ask me about myself, medical history—nothing. Also I thought it was odd that I hadn’t been to the practice in over 2 years and no one asked me to update my paperwork. They asked me in a one-off if I still had my iud. Also, they gave me a Pap smear even though I had one less than 6mos ago—no ultrasound confirmation. Needless to say, I was very disappointed and won’t be returning
