I never saw the doctor or the PA. Bad experience
I went to see this doctor for the treatment of Peyrone's disease. My initial appointment went well, but things went bad soon after. First of all, you can't call the office and speak to any doctors or PAs. You can only leave a message. Second, never once saw the doctor. Only the PA and medical interns. Third, they are horrible at dealing with insurance. Fourth, the other way to communicate is via their own Online Messaging system. In the course of 8 months, I was treated only twice. It's nearly impossible to get a follow-up call and messages are returned inconsistently. I felt abandoned by the staff and doctor. I think the main problem lies with this teaching hospital's system. I think the staff is essentially good, but they are stuck in a weird corporate hierarchy that does not serve the patients' needs well. I pity those who have to deal with this horrible disease and then are subjected to this terrible hospital service.

Dr Carrion (Surgery)
Dr Carrion perform surgery on me with a Hematoma. He met with me prior and was exceptionally professional and kind. His experience as a surgeon is exceptional and would have no worries in seeing him again. Very good at what he does!

I have known Dr Carrion for more than 40 years. I have operated with him, shared patients with him and benefited from his knowledge and skills. Academic urology is a different animal than community Urology. It is not as convenient , doesn't move as fast as we like and involves medical urologists in training. I consider this an asset. I lived the life of a academic urologist and a community one as well. I have had surgery in both environments. I can tell you that for a simple problem academia(the university) may not be the best place for you; if you are interested in convenience, and expedience. But for a difficult problem, a complication or an unusual situation, there is no better place to go than to Dr Carrion and his university partners. i have seen them rescue desperate cases and done so with care ,compassion and charity. We are fortunate in Tampa to have this expertise. I will not hesitate to send him any of my patients or put my life in his hand if the situation arises.

I waited for 2 months to get an appointment and when i finally was able to see him for the initial consultation, I waited another 20 days to only find out that something was not covered by my insurance with no follow up appointments made to determine if alternate solutions were available. This is by far the worst experience I have had with any Dr.

Scheduling appointments at USF urology is a abomination. Always get passed off to his revolving door of interns and PAs without seeing Dr Carrion. Staff can't schedule an appointment with anyone but Dr Carrion because I'm listed as his patient. Results of urgent care/ultrasound visit was "urgent" need to see my urologist. First available appointment was 6 weeks out. After 3 hours of phone time and persistent explanations, I got this reduced to 1 week out, but only saw the newest interns.

I wanted to say thank you to my amazing Urologist, Dr. Rafael Carrion, MD, from Moffitt Cancer Center/USF Health who operated on me recently. What really stands out to me is how Dr. Carrion went above and beyond to help me get through my very delicate operation. He had a very comforting bedside manner and Home Healthcare was arranged through his office and I felt my recovery was handled very well. I would highly recommend Dr. Rafael Carrion and his staff, as he is one of the best in his field.

There are no words to describe how caring Dr. Carrion is. By far is the "BEST." Dr. Carrion takes his time with you and is not in a rush. Dr. Carrion will explain everything to you in detail so you understand what he is talking about. In my eyes Dr. Carrion is certainly the "BEST" and I would recommend him to needs a Urologist.

Dr. Carrion is by far the best urologist in all the Tampa Bay area and all of central Florida . He worked with me 2+ years regarding issues related to having prostate cancer and the removal of the prostate. His experience, knowledge, guidance, recommendations, and surgery talent have given me my life back. How, you ask? I now able to function again as a normal male. A major part of Dr. Carrions skill-set is his outward caring for his patients and his genuine personality. He is my Friend!
