Successful, complex L5-S1 spinal fusion
After two diskectomy surgeries previously, I developed some scar tissue and calcification around my nerve root which was extraordinarily painful. I was unable to function, and managing pain with narcotics.Once we agreed on the course of treatment (including consulting a different neurosurgeon), Dr. V and his staff were able to move quickly to get a fusion scheduled. The surgery was more complicated than is typical -- 3 hours instead of the typical 1.5-2 hours -- as Dr. V had to delicately remove calcified material from around the nerve root. While I was expecting to have some lingering pain and numbness, at 4 weeks post-surgery, I am completely pain free and numbness is very mild (and sometimes non-existent).Dr. V did an excellent job with the surgery, and also invested time to be sure I had realistic expectations around the recovery journey.

Just when I lost all Hope
During the most painful 2 months of my life and unsure about my future health of my spine, a miracle happened. After being in and out of the ER and seeing different specialist, unable to walk or stand, I was giving up hope to ever been normal again. Will I be in pain the rest of my life? One of my good friends happened tell Dr. Ram Vasudevan about my situation. I got in contact with Dr. Ram Vasudevan and see was able to see me the next day. From there, 5 days later I has surgery and was pain free again. His knowledge and understanding and ability to treat someone as a unique situation and individual approach is extremely rare now a days. I barely has a scar on my low back. Surgery went prefect and I'm back to work 6 weeks post op. Beyond amazed and thankful for Dr. Ram Vasudevan.

Back pain with leg weakness and numbness
I developed progressive weakness and numbness in my legs over several years. I am a physician and was reluctant to consider surgery until I had serious lifestyle limitations. I diligently researched all back surgeons in the Austin and wider area and settled on Dr. Vasudevan. I was not disappointed. One month after minimally invasive spinal surgery I am fully functional and have no limitations and no leg or back symptoms. Dr.V is kind, compassionate and was personally engaged in all aspects of my care. I did not get farmed out to PAs &Nurse Practitioners. He always had all the time to answer my and my wife’s concerns and I never felt rushed. He encouraged me to try conservative care and did not push surgical intervention until I was ready to. I could not recommend a peer more highly. Dr. V has restored my active lifestyle back to me and I as well as my wife will remain eternally grateful to him.

The Absolute Best!
Please call Dr. V for your spine complaints. I wish I had sooner. I had a C4-5-6 fusion in January 2024 and I’m now completely pain-free after having severe pain and burning for 12 years. The surgery and recovery went flawlessly. He’s a highly skilled surgeon, compassionate, and took time to thoroughly investigate my complaints when I felt like other physicians had overlooked them. Now, I take zero medications and no longer suffer from pain. I don’t require a pain management physician. Nothing. I couldn't be happier with the results.

Multilevel Lumbar Fusion Surgery
Dr V was amazing! He was always attentive when we met, and the surgery he performed was truly life changing. I was suffering from lumbar spinal stenosis with claudication and herniations. I was in constant pain and was barely able to walk. I had already had one lumbar decompression surgery that was unsuccessful and left me worse off that I started. We came up with a plan intended to address all my issues via a minimally invasive L3-L4-L5-S1 fusion (3 levels). The surgery was originally planned for 4-5 hours. When Dr V got in there, the damage was much more severe and extensive than expected. The surgery ended up taking almost 10 hours, and reading the notes (yikes!) it was really complicated. It was a tough recovery, as lumbar spinal surgery always is, but I am now 4 months post surgery, and am doing PT. I have regained a lot of strength & flexibility, and the good news is that 100% of the symptoms that bought me in are completely gone! I cannot recommend Dr V highly enough. EXCELLENT!

Best Surgeon! Hands Down!
Dr Vasudavan has a solid reputation. I have spoken to other doctors and was told he is probably the best neuro surgeon in the state, if not the county. In my experience he realigned my neck and preformed a Cervical Dysectomy my infusion was successful and the pain I suffered for 12 years is finally gone. The knowledge of his staff is awesome. I felt confident from my first visit. I would recommend him to anyone he can help. This doctor is amazing.

L5 Nerve Decompression Hero
Dr. Ram Vasudevan restored my quality of life. I had developed severe pain in my lumbar and leg that became unbearable. I had previously attempted meds, spinal injections, and PT to address the pain but it worsened each day to the point that I could hardly walk or sleep. I was able to set up a consultation with Dr. V relatively quickly. He attentively listened to my concerns and studied the MRI. He quickly diagnosed the issue-a compressed L5 nerve-and recommended minor surgery (foraminotomy) since I had already tried so many non-surgical options. Dr. V and the medical facility were able to get the surgery scheduled a week later. I was still in pain for a week after surgery; Dr. V explained that the nerve needed time to heal. He was correct as I now no longer have pain. Dr. V always listened and provided ample opportunity to ask questions both pre and post surgery. He and his staff made it abundantly clear he was out of network; I consciously chose the best option for my health.

Lumbar Fusion
If you are having back issues and are in need of a Neurosurgeon I highly recommend Austin Nurospine and Dr. Ram Vasudevan. I recently had L4 /L5 fusion and could not be more pleased with the outcome. It has been 1 month since the surgery and I am pain free and going about my daily routine without any issues. I highly recommend Dr. V and also enjoyed working with his staff they were very accommodating. Dr. V is very caring and makes sure that you understand every detail of the procedure. He is a trained Minimal Invasive Spinal Surgery.

Totally satisfied from beginning to end
Dr. Vasudewan Made me very comfortable with the entire process. Thoroughly explained every phase and made me at ease to continue with this delicate procedure. Procedure was a total success, I felt prepared and ready. His staff was excellent in guiding me through all the pre surgery requirements and appointments. Post surgery follow up no hesitation in getting immediate feedback to all my questions. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr V for this surgery. His calmness in explaining every aspect of this procedure was truly a blessing, thank you Dr. V

Dr. V cured my back pain
Dr. V cured my back pain. After 9 years of dealing with constant back pain, and trying every type of treatment, it was time for surgical intervention. I was referred to Dr. V from my pain specialist and from the moment I met him, I felt at ease. He took the time to understand my story, my condition, and after ordering new MRI and X-ray images, he recommended a minimally-invasive TLIF procedure. My discs had severely degenerated over time and a fusion was necessary to decompress the spine and give space to the nerves. Leading up to surgery Dr. V walked me through the whole process and made sure I understood exactly what to expect. After the procedure was over, he was in constant communication and made sure I was recovering properly. I saw Dr. V again for the 1-month, 3-month, and 6-month check-ups and he again made sure I was informed and healing the right way. If you have back pain, you need to go see Dr. V. He will get to the root of the issue and take care of it.

Dr. Ram Vasudevan has been a blessing. He very thoroughly walked me through my MRI images, explaining various details and views. His willingness to spend the time explaining the details at a level I could understand really made me feel like I was in good hands. Dr. V is very thorough, patient and kind. I never feel rushed and he always addresses all my questions. I have pain in various locations of my body. He listens to me regarding all my symptoms to ensure he is addressing the root cause and getting me the therapy I need. He communicates in way that makes it easy for a non-medical professional to understand. The surgery was a success. I was amazed at how quickly I recovered. Dr V continued to follow up as I went through the recovery phases and was still just as helpful and kind. I highly recommend Dr. V.

Dr V has treated me for L5 S1 disc and I am feeling great after surgery. He is the best neurosurgeon in Austin. Before him, I did visit multiple doctors to get opinions but their recommendations were not well. Dr V guided me well with the severity of the issue and also provided excellent information on how it needs to be done. He and his team has always been supportive in the days before surgery and also after surgery for the followups.

I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Vasudevan and the entire staff at Austin NeuroSpine. I spent well over 2 years in pain, avoiding surgery. I came to Dr. V's office after exploring several options. Setting up the appointment was painless, the team there handled getting my past medical treatment, my MRI was set up quickly, they communicated on where things were and next steps. The compassion for patients was very clear in all they did. After meeting with Dr. V I scheduled MIS TILF surgery. It's been almost 6 months now and I am 100% happy with the outcomes; I wake up without pain, places in my leg/foot that were numb are starting to recover. I don't spend my day thinking about my back. It's an absolute life changer and I'm so pleased with the outcomes.

After two other surgical consults and years trying to avoid surgery, I was referred to Dr V by my pain management Dr, as well as two personal friends who were already patients. I was petrified and had done everything to avoid surgery for years! I wish I hadn’t waited so long. I am 6 weeks post op today. I had a three level ACDF and feel fantastic! If I have to go back for another level, I won’t hesitate, with him as my surgeon. Not only is he an amazing surgeon, but he’s kind, compassionate and very thorough in explaining everything, step by step. I hope if you are reading this and considering surgery, you will consult with Dr Vasudevan. You just don’t have to live in pain. The difference is life changing. I got mine back ??

I had pretty much given up on everything that life had to offer and was just going to accept that pain would just be a permanent factor that would follow me until the procedure preformed by Dr. Vasudevan. From the moment I walked into Austin NeuroSpine the staff was incredible. They put my mind at ease and they made me feel comfortable through the entire process. I’m able to see the beauty in the world around me once again now that I’m not constantly in pain. Thank you so much Austin NeuroSpine!

Great experiences here. Awesome surgeon, down to earth and really interactive with patients so you understand treatment options. I've been to Austin NeuroSpine and Dr. Vasudevan for two different issues and both times he's gone above and beyond expectations. The first time was a few years back and I was in major back pain and under the care of a different doctor for over a month who couldn't find the problem. On the first visit, Dr. V found the issue from the existing tests and sent me off to get an injection which fully resolved the pain over the next few days. The second time was recent. I needed emergent surgery due to a severly pinched nerve . We reviewed the available options for care and we agreed on the right approach. However, the insurance company wanted to complete a procedure that would only resolve the issues short term rather than my preferred approach. Dr. V went to work to validate with the treatment plan with insurance and got approval. I feel great post op.

06/24/2015 is a day I'll never forget: I was rear-ended and it started a long, trying process to figure out where my pain was coming from and how to best fix it. I grew frustrated with my pain doctor after almost FOUR YEARS of band-aids, and implored him to send me to a 2nd opinion, but only the best. Dr. Vasudevan was at the top of his list, and I was referred. Before the end of my first consult, Dr. Vausdevan spotted something seemingly minor on a thoracic MRI up in the cervical spine. Bear in mind that these MRIs were, at this point, 2+ years old. Through this point, not one person: the radiologist, the pain doc, and anyone of the previous 10 doctors I had seen had noticed it. I got sent for a new MRI and voila; big problem found and a course of treatment and gameplan made. I had an ACDF on 5/21/2020 and 2 weeks to the day later, I have regained my life. I no longer have pain, electricity, or fire in my hands. I haven't dropped anything out of my hands in 2 weeks. Thank you!

I suffered with unbearable back and leg pain for around 1 year , assuming that going forward, this would be what my life would look like . Several times I had been laid up in bed for weeks in excruciating pain. I was not excited about the spinal fusion procedure that Dr. Vasudevan recommended, but I trusted him. He explained issues in language I could understand. It's been just over a month since my surgery and the pain is gone! Dr. Vasudevan, THANK YOU for giving me my life back! 1
