Dr. Randal May, MD

Desert Cites Anesthesia Professionals assigned Dr. May to handle my cataract surgery at El Mirador Surgery Center. Dr. May met with me a few minutes before the start of my surgery. He said he was going to give me conscious sedation. He did not identify the drugs he intended to use. Because I am allergic to a drug commonly used for conscious sedation, I had to ask Dr. May the name of the drug he intended to use. He said he was going to give me a mixture of two drugs, one of which I am allergic to. I was dumbfounded! I asked Dr. May if he had read my file wherein at the top of the first page was written in big, bold, black marker pen letters the name of the drug I am allergic to. Dr. May admitted he had not. Nor did he ask me if I was allergic to any drugs. Knowing how I react to this drug, the successful outcome of my cataract surgery would have been jeopardized had Dr. May administered this drug to me as he planned to do.
